What's this?! A debut from an Icelandic band that isn't black metal?!

The first song of this is excellent - not sure I've heard anybody get closer to the 'feel' of Devin Townsend's "Deadhead" than it (not saying that it's an equal to it, just the warm sustained chords have a similar vibe). I'm not as keen on the shorter songs that immediately follow it with the more heavy approach, but the rest of the album that lurks somewhere between these two ends of the spectrum are tasty; the influence of Devin Townsend, Strapping Young Lad and possibly Gojira is quite evident

The video for Hemisslit is really well made. The song is also enjoyable as is the rest of the album.

It's more post metal than anything else i think.

I didn't really pick up post-metal when listening to it, but I see one of the other staff's added that tag now - I'll hopefully find time to give the albm another listen and see if I recognize that any more. Regarding the comment about tagging it as extreme prog above, there are some harsh vocals (but also plenty of clean ones), but I didn't really pick up on any extreme metal instrumentation on the listen I gave it (although the shorter songs do go harder), and harsh vocals by themselves aren't really enough to make something extreme metal, so I don't think progressive metal is an ill-fitting label for it; I found myself thinking of it under that label in the same way that I would something like Ziltoid.

Looking back at your comment above, it really does sound a lot like Gojira and Devin to an extent. First thing I thought of when listening to them was actually Cult of Luna but I can also hear those other influences clearer now.

EDIT: I fell that my Cult of Luna reference is a bit off tbh now that I'm listening to the album again. It's probably Hemisslit that has a stronger Post metal feel to it compared to the rest of the album. The music actually leans more towards the progressive (death metal?) side of things.

EDIT2: Ooof, the CoL thing is WAY off

Just my 2 cents InnerSelf, you need to really calm down on your(edited) shouts before you give a proper listen to an album. it's ok to be cheered around.

Or I could not do that, this is a forum after all. Engaging with music and disucssions about it is actually fun.

I didn't enjoy the first track, it takes too long to get going and then it gets lost in post metal misery.
After that though it's a different story. Frelsari and especially Mur are amongst the best track I've listened to this year. I only hope that they were in English so I can understand it 😁

P.S. I wonder if the Múr - Múr title is intentional (murmur) 🤓

I'm with you. There's a lot of forum policing and it really gets on my tits sometimes 🤣

Iceland has pulled yet another top quality band out of the hat! This is one hell of a debut and "Heimsslit" has to be one of the best songs I've heard this year
