Not too many, I bet. There's soooo much crap on m-a / MS it's not funny, and here I'm not talking about the reviews. BTW where's St. Angahhh?

You should have done the thumbs down thing on the previous round, some of these album artwork are, imo, horrible or clichéd. Fanboys shouldn't be allowed to vote!!

They should vote (as I did) according to the album artwork only. The music is not important here ...

The Great Mass probably would.

I hate Amon Amarth, but it is by far my favourite artwork with maybe Immortal second and Amorphis third. I liked the Ahab one though, shame it didn't make it. I downvoted Opeth - Ghost Revieries, Mastodon - Crack the Skye and Les Discrets. Septicflesh was tied with Opeth, but i find the candles just lame and cliche.

For example whilst I agree most of them are horrendous, what you listed, I REALLY like the Emperor cover.

Huh, I didn't even register that album was on the list. Should make things interesting in terms of voting, although I doubt I'll be surprised at the top 3, unless a slew of Swallow the Sun fans show up to the party.

I am afraid a slew SepticFlesh fans will show up to the party and vote that horrendous piece of "art" into the top 3, same for Dissection btw. At least Opeth's two are great.

Septic Flesh's album art is amazing; Seth is my favourite artist, his art is dark, horrific yet beautiful. I want to cover my house in his art, but each to their own I guess.

No matter what the results are, I'll find something to bitch about - Metalstorm.

Fates Warning's Awaken The Guardian cover is bad ass - my favorite ever. Oh, that one didn't make it? Dammit.
I have never even heard of Vildhjarta but that is the best cover art left. Skyforger the silver medal, Blackwater Park the bronze.

I'm really disappointed that John Baizley artwork hasn't made it further in this poll I mean all the Baroness albums the artwork is fantastic I mean Kvelertak is on there, but I really thought there would be more

That looks like an ashtray you can get at those silly gothic novelty shops.

Personally I would spend more for the ashtray.

I find the anatomical abnormalities in that artwork interesting.

I'm having the hardest time finding out which are the ones I care about at all. Really, most of these album covers are either campy, lacking in technical proficiency or simply boring. Sometimes all three.

My top offenders:

Wintersun - Wintersun
Dissection - Storm of Light's Bane
Mastodon - Crack the Skye
Emperor - In the Nightside Eclipse
Septicflesh - The Great Mass

Esoteric - The Maniacal Vale
Alcest - Écailles de Lune

Esoteric's The Maniacal Vale and Alcest's Écailles de Lune are the easy stand-outs, one a cerebral affair with excellent use of lighting, the other making equally good use of shading and colour plus conveying a rich emotional backdrop. Skyforger, Masstaden and Dwellings are sort of "the best of the rest" but I couldn't really bring myself to vote on any of them for "best cover evah".

Of note, Mastodon and Amon Amarth's both really scream "METAL!!" at me but are just too cliché, being a given that one could peruse covers throughout the years and find something rather similar, if not downright superior.

Cool list. FYI the Immortal link appears to be broken/bad.

I'm still surprised people picked Ghost Reveries over Still Life and Opeth's earlier albums.

Agreed, Still Life looks a lot better.

Storm of the Lights Bane is my personal favourite.

One i'd like to have on the list also is Above the Weeping World by Insomnium, love that cover

Is the regular version of The Great Mass shiny like the 2 disk version?

My favourites are the black metal trio of At The Heart Of Winter, In The Nightside Eclipse and Hvis Lyset Tar Oss. The first two I love because of the fantasy theme to them, and they provide an image that fits perfectly with the music on each album. The Burzum one is cool because it's not trying to look grandiose or technical, but at the same time really achieves a chilling atmosphere - which in many ways is what the music on the album is all about. Though I prefer the artwork on the self-titled album for looking more mysterious.

I personally think In Flames - Colony has an awesome album cover. Sure the band sucks nowadays, but that album cover is really something portraying some kind of a dystopian or post apocalyptic scene with all that destroyed strange looking machinery and a boat with a white figure aboard.

Too bad Manslayer didn't make the list. It's better album art and better music quality that about 100% of these.
