But anyway, feel free to talk about some good metalcore. Nad if any of you are wondering why this is in the Alt. Metal forum, it's because I got tired of people whining at me about it. But anywho, let the discussion Commense.

Man today I got Shadows Falls new Album, It actually Suprised me in the respect that it wasn't a carbon Copy of "Fallout from the war." But it still doesn't live up to their potential, and still Disapoints me. I don't know what to think of it yet.

What I don't understand is why people keep on calling Shadows Fall metalcore when ti is clearly thrash albeit a modern version but thrash nonetheless.

06.04.2007 - 14:18 Written by Marcel Hubregtse on 06.04.2007 at 11:24 Agreed here. Shadows Fall is Thrash Metal, whether you like it or not. Indeed a very modern version of Thrash, inspired by the modern metal sound, and thus also by the modern Metalcore sound. But in the end it isn't Metalcore at all! Go listen to some Metalcore bands like Heaven Shall Burn, All That Remains, On Broken Wings and It Dies Today, to name a very few. And then come back and still pretend Shadows Fall is Metalcore... People claiming that the latest Shadows Fall album "Threads Of Life" is pure Metalcore, or don't properly know what Thrash Metal is and/or don't properly know what Metalcore is!! Or is it because Shadows Fall is a mainstream band with commercial success that it becomes "true" to bash them and ditch them into the Metalcore category, the general trash can of everything that sucks...?

I've been saying the same thing forever and got tired of arguing about it. There is nothing "core" about them. I don't think that All That Remains or It Dies Today is metalcore either though....but I haven't heard more than one song by both bands, so I could be wrong.

I mean, I don't want to argue, but I'm not trying to be "tr00" or whatever, and I have listened to all the above listed bands by you, I Own all of shadows falls Albums, as well as their DVD, I know all of their current members, as well as all of their former members. I have a thorough Knowledge of this band, they are and always will be one of my favorite bands. I don't claim threads of life as "Pure metalcore." I don't really claim it as Metalcore at all, like I already said, I don't know what to think of it. Listen, I'm not trying to "ditch" them into the metalcore category, I wouldn't do that because I am a metalcore fan. I consider them metalcore because that's what I know them to be. Besides their first album sounds more like melo-death. all this being said, I have no hard feelings tword you, and I hope you have none tword me. but this is how I feel. Don't bash me please.

Well-said, Arian Totalis. I agree with your side of it. If someone likes a band it shouldn't matter what genre they are, just that you like and what you think about them is all that should matter. I don't know how to explain it better than that at this moment. On another note, has anyone heard of Walls of Jericho? I find that a couple of their songs that I listened too were half-way decent. The vocalist is a female and she certainly does a nice job with them. Please, if anyone has heard them, tell me what you think of them.

@ Arian Totalis: I wasn't really taking a direct shot at you. I know you're one of the few Metalcore appreciators on this forum. I was rather talking in general (to the people who bash Shadows Fall and find them crap because they think they are Metalcore and find Metalcore crap, often without even knowing anything about Metalcore), without aiming at someone in particular. So don't worry, I wasn't bashing you at all. No hard feelings whatsoever. Also, don't be afraid I'd bash you just for replying me. We all have our opinions, and if I have the right to express mine (that is, in a civilized way of course), you have too. Anyway, I still don't think "Threads Of Life" is Metalcore. So tell us and help us out here, what do you think about All That Remains and It Dies Today? Are they Metalcore according to you? You'll probably know it much better than me and pyro.

08.04.2007 - 17:06 Written by Thryce on 08.04.2007 at 12:25 Ok, sorry about that, and thank you for your honesty. Anyway, the way I've always Identified metalcore is through a few characteristics I've always known the genre for. 1)Some type of hardcore influence in the playing style, mainly in the drums and rythym guitars. 2)Often also it is influenced by Gothenburg, in the way og guitar melodies and vocals 3)Like Metalcore's predesessor, Hardcore, Metalcore is Breakdown Crazy. almost any time you find a metalcore band they will play breakdowns like Crazy, bands like; Unearth, god forbid, all that remains, and shadows fall to name a few. So in reference to All that remains, Listen to this song "the deepest Grey" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L2cWkCgjsRo If you notice, the rythym guitar is very much like a hardcore riff, and it also has a gothenburg feel because of the harmony that is thrown in the middle of it. However Vocally this is not labonte at his best, I've heard much better. His Gothenburg voice in this song is sort of weak. But it does have another characteristic of metalcore I forgot to mention, a cross of harsh and clean vocals. A good ATR song that has a decent breakdown is "this calling" which is actually also sort of weak for labonte, but has a Killer Opener. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UcfLkrDXdn8 It dies today......eh.....well I guess you could call them metalcore, doesn't mean that Like them.

Ahhhh the breakdown. Something i can listen to over and over lol. It seems in God Forbids latest stuff, it's not quite as breakdowny. They seem to be going in more of a thrash direction. Still metalcore though.

I was wondering if anyone here is a fan of Martyr AD? I'm not sure if they have been mentioned but I think they are a "Core" band with an extremely heavy, and well executed Metal "edge" if you will. I think they are good. Anyone?

I started to get into Metalcore a few months ago, and i've founded great bands indeed! I didn't listen to this style earlier because some of my friends have always told me: don't listen to metalcore bands. They think that metalcore is crap, so i stop listening to what they said and i started to listen some Metalcore bands. Bury Your Dead, From A Second Story Window, Becoming The Archetype, Bleeding Through, those are the bands that i listened among many others. Metalcore has great bands, but it has some very bands too. My friends were wrong. I can say that i've a good impression about Metalcore

Some of the bands have some really tight music, but it is the lyrics that I really dig. There is is something about the passion behind many of those words that hits me hard. As for the Christian Metalcore bands that I like (in alphabetical order):

Yeah, i know Despised Icon. Their last album is quite good, but i haven't listened the other albums yet... In the first post that i made in this topic i've only had an idea of some metalcore bands, but now i've some favorites like: Burning Skies, Haste The Day, All Out War, Born From Pain, Cataract, The Human Abstract, Will Haven, War Of Ages, The Chariot, Becoming The Archetype and Silent Civilian. Well, they're always changing

Between the Buried and Me Lamb of God Devildriver Even though, I personally wouldn't call the last two Metalcore (most towards Neo-Thrash imo), but that's what I like from Metalcore. The genre doesn't interest me much, mostly because of the vocals and overuse of the same melodies.

People seem to get groove metal mixed up with metalcore which doesn't make so much sense to me. I've heard people call bands like Chimaira and Lamb of God metalcore and I'm pretty sure they're groove metal. I might be actaully mistaking metalcore bands for being groove metal, but imo Lamb of God and Chimaira are groove metal.

There seems to be a thin line between New Wave of American Thrash Metal and Metalcore. I have come across several bands that can be called either, such as Lamb of God, The Red Death, Shadows Fall, and Living Sacrifice.

Yeah I noticed that too, my friend was asking me if I liked Lamb of God...and I said "No, Im not really into metalcore" and he sorta looked at me like I just spit on his mother and said "No dude, they are thrash." - I dont know, I couldnt really tell the differrence from the stuff I heard between metalcore and thrash...imo I found that differrence more apparrent in shadows fall ( more thrash orientated )

08.11.2007 - 11:51 Written by Sunioj on 17.07.2007 at 20:05 Well you can seperate Thrash from Metalcore from the aggression and the speed of the songs. Most metalcore bands use a lot of so called "breakdowns" which kinda make the song seem slow (maybe mid-tempo) even though the BMP is, say 180. It just sounds slower. Thrash however is basically faster, more aggressive than metalcore just without all the breakdowns, and often with alot more solos.

08.11.2007 - 14:10 Written by Dane Train on 17.07.2007 at 18:50 I'm not sure all of those bands fit in the thrash/metalcore scene at the same time. Imo Lamb of God and Living Sacrifice for example (that are two bands I really enjoy), are not thrash and metalcore. Lamb of God is thrash obviosly, although Living Sacrifice (particulary their newer stuff) is much more metalcore than anything else. However I agree with you when you say that there is a thin line between new thrash and metalcore. Both are fast, agressive and sometimes a bit melodic.

I don't know a lot of metalcore. I've heard a bit of what is suposed to be 'normal' metalcore, and I find it simple and boring, maybe I chose the wrong bands. But I like quite a lot mathcore, progressive and technical metalcore bands, like Between The Buried And Me, Protest The Hero and SikTh. Those bands are pure ownage.

I like Lamb of God's New American Gospel. That's about it for metalcore, I haven't found much that sounds like that. You get a similar vibe from some stuff like new Fuck The Facts more than anything else I've found. Any metalcore that sounds like NAG? As in not very melodic, very abrasive, very percussive with the same hardcore/metal mix...
