Tool is among my top favourite band. I have all their albums except for Salival which is a bitch to get hold of. last Summer I listened to nothing but tool and I bet this summer will be just the same. their newest album? a masterpiece! the artwork and music videos has me fascinated to no end. I can't wait to see this band live in a couple of weeks ^^

Honestly, I find it difficult to see why so many people love this band, alot of the time. By no means am I the elitist sort, though I do prefer the more extreme metal generally speaking. However, I simply find Tool extremely bland. The vocals are ok, but nothing special - and while the music suits them well, it is also nothing spectacular to me. I admit to liking 2-3 (or is it 1-2?) songs quite a bit, but no more than that.

Well, I have the albums, except for Salival and 10.000 Days. They're one of teh best bands I've ever heard, they're one of my favourites. What i like the most of them is that, spite having the talent to be a prog band, they aren't. they they're loyal to their style, quite complex, long songs. And their videos slam!!! So deep and weird, I can't get tired of them. My fav. album, spite what everyone say is Lateralus. It's great to travel. There's nothing like going in a bus watching the landscape while listening Tool's blasting music. The drums are crushing, guitar is filled with effects, bass whoa no words, andmauynards voice is unique. Probably teh most powerfull voice I've ever heard. I'm going to order 10.000 days pretty soon, when I have the money to buy it.

15.07.2006 - 03:49 Written by [user id=10972] on 13.07.2006 at 16:23 Tool is not progresive. They have the elements to be a progresive band, but they prefer to be alternative. I think they are Avantgarde, in fact. Just compare: Dream Theater is progresive. Does Tool sound like Dream Theater? No. It's as simple as this: Tool has no solos. Except maybe in Lateralus (The song, in the end). Tool is NOT prog.

when i think tool i think of there video's not really there songs and i think that there video's are cool but in all honesty what do they have to do with real life you could hardly compare them with any aspect of your life and i think maybe they get away with looking artistic when maybe there not that artistic

Then any doom metal band has sad lyrics too, because why write down lyrics about a world which is sad and pathetic? There are a lot more bands that try to give a message like that to their fans. Not just Tool. And I don't think Tool only has that one thing to say with their lyrics. The first two albums might have been quite angry towards the world and society, but their later albums sure have some other meanings. Besides, the lyrics are really not -that- important to me, I like the creative way they build up their songs. It's not 'fake', I prefer to call it experimental.

I'm not sure what to say. Some really dark music. Everyone in the band is really talented. I only own 'Lateralus' but I like that album quite a bit. I have listened to their other material and it is all pretty good. I am going to see them with a friend in September sometime I suppose. He ordered his tickets today. We'll see how it goes. I do however find their themes really interesting.

Art has always used symbolism to convay an extraordinary idea in an image that may or may not make sense to the viewer. But does it mean that it is "Fake art" because it holds more ideas, messages and thoughts inside of it rather then display a blunt Idea out in the open? And who said Tool was only about how shitty they think the world is? sure they have that mixed in their music sometimes, but they also mix in many other ideas about things like the Tree of life, and mathmatical references to Astrology and Saturn.(not the planet) "Being Sad is not cool?" Im not sure what you exactly mean about that, I mean, when people are actually sad, its not to look cool, its because they are. Sure no one wants to be sad, and sane people don't go around looking for sorrow, but its a fact of life, and to run away from that fact would just be fooling yourself.

I recently got 10,000 Days. I only have one word about it: PERFECT. I personally love Lateralus since is the first Tool album I ever heard, and I find 10,000 Days as a sequel for Lateralus, it's very similar. And it's fuckin' perfect. I've heard it aty least five times between yesterday and today. But I still don't have Salival...

I like their older stuff from Undertow and Opiate. Aenima kicks major ass, as does Lateralus. 10,000 Days, of course, is no exception. I do have one question tho: 10,000 Days and Wings for Marie were about Maynard's mother. Does anyone know if Judith by a Perfect Circle was about Maynard's mother; or was there another reference?
