So here it is, a thread for the hungarian metal band Dalriada(or formerly known as Echo of Dalriada). For you who aren't familiar with Dalriada, it's a hungarian band who play an epic style of folk metal, and sings enterly in hungarian.

Ok, a couple of months ago, when i first got some of their songs, i thought they were, well kinda lame.

Then, a couple of days ago i gave them another chance and man, they are freaking brilliant. The drumming is especially complex with excellent cymbal work, and that girl's voice fits the music quite well. The melodies are really awesome and they make good use of piano/violins.

I'm definately gonna look out for them in the future!

Dalriada is one of my favourite bands, and not beacuse it's hungarian. Dalriada should be a well-known band all over the world. I'm a bit sad that they aren't very famous abroad... If someone would like to listen to the band I can suggest him/her to start with Szondi Két Apródja (I. rész) and Téli Ének. These songs are from their 2005 album(Jégbontó). Their 2 new albums are fantastic from the beginning to the end. I advise everybody to try it, I'm sure he/she won't be disappointed!
It's quite funny that I am the first Hungarian who writes here:D
If you want to know anything about Dalriada ask me!
And write again guys! It's so good that there are people in Estonia,Sweden,Serbia or South Africa who know Dalriada
Write here again! We should revive this topic!!!!

This band it's awesome, I started listening their album Fergeteg, some time ago, and I can't stop now,
their music is excelent...

Well, Fergeteg isn't my favourite album because of the sound of the guitars but the songs are great on it. I hope one day they will re-release that album. And did you know that the 6th-7th-8th track is a ballad written by Arany János in 1857?

@Janne: you really like dalriada don't you?

My fav album without a doubt is Jebonto, the new album it's also good, but i think is a step backwards from the right path.

I like the music, but the vocals are not appealing to me. The male vocals remind me of Mago de Oz too much. The female is too weak.

I think Jégbintó is the fastest album with lots of double bass drums and it has Dalriada's most popular song, Téli Ének (and also my personal favourite (Szondi I)) so it's a great album but I like Kikelet just as much as Jégbontó. Kikelet is very similar to Jégbontó but more complex for me and the melodies are awesome.
About Szelek, I wouldn't say it a step backwards, it's just different from the older albums. Less speedy but more epic. I love all Dalriada albums so I can't choose a favourite.

IMO Andris (male vocals) has a beautiful voice, and It's totally different from Mägo De Oz! Andris sings much stronger with many emotions.
and Laura's voice is also great! (at least on the CDs) when I saw them live she wasn't so brilliant but it was enjoyable.

Keep in mind i have only heard Kikelet which i understand is not meant to be their best album. I still find the male vocals to be very similar, moreso in style not pitch. It sounds like he is heavily influenced by him. Ears hear different things i guess.
The music from the band is pretty cool, its grabs you straight away.

Maybe.. I'm not really good at vocals but for me Mägo's vocals are rather similar to Elvenking's.

The first time i listen Dalriada, that was exactly my thought about the female vocals, but later i realize that other kind wouldn't fit dalriada style.

Well i do see a resemblance with Mago de Oz and Elvenking vocals a bit, but mainly on songs like Trows Kind, not their earlier works.

Hail Lusitânia
Dalriada is now one of my favourite folk metal bands.

When I first listened to their album Kikelet, it was such a strange sound... really different from what I was used, specially the female voice, and male too, hehe, wich sounds kinda gipsy sometimes...

But recently I had another try and really enjoyed it... I focused more on the drums and yeah they're awesome!

Now I have their new album Szelek and Hell Yeah! Lots of bands start well and then keep losing their style during the years, but Dalriada seem to be getting better and better. I'm very satisfied with that!

Keep going ye!

I stumbled upon Dalriada by accident on Youtube, the song Téli ének, and my first reaction was: WOW! When I listened to their other stuff, I was more than impressed. Interesting female vocal, great atmosphere, and I never thought Hungarian language would be so nice to listen to (it always sounded a bit harsh and strange to me, especially after listening to Omega and stuff like that). All in all, a fantastic discovery, would love to hear them live someday, they could maybe come to the next Exit Festival
