I watched the show before I knew it was based on books but few months ago I started to read the first book (haven't had the chance to read anything besides study materials ever since) and I guess I'm glad I already knew what all characters look like. anyway, recently I spotted the other four books in a bookstore and I think I'll make an exception and buy them (I rarely buy fiction books as I just read them once and then put away, so what's the point of that?)... winter's the coolest season for reading books.

plus, if one's worrying about the language... well, um, practice makes perfect, right? reading books is one of the best ways how to improve your knowledge in any language.

Watching The Young Pope now, it is extremely good. Created by Paolo Sorrentino known for his fantastic feature films (Youth, The Great Beauty), the series is pretty much film-level quality. Beautiful scenes, the best treatment of religion on TV in a while (satirical and sympathetic at the same time, looking past the obvious clichés) and great characters. The best TV drama since Mad Men maybe?

First 3 episodes of The Defenders were pretty good. Good job merging all 4 shows together (while letting the other 3 carry Iron Fist).

First 3 episodes of The Defenders were pretty good. Good job merging all 4 shows together (while letting the other 3 carry Iron Fist).

Daredevil Seasons 1 and 2 and Jessica Jones season 1 are the only ones I managed to finish in the MCU-Netflix verse. Luke Cage was good but too slow paced and un-engaging for me so didn't make it past 3 episodes. Watched 10 mins of Iron Fist and the silliness was obvious in it so didn't finish it either. The last two shows I mentioned totally put me off from the excitement for Defenders. Will have to give this a try though.

Iron Fist is still a whinny little bitch. I liked him trying to hit Cage, though. Like trying to slap a concrete statue.

Am I the only one that thinks the new Rick and Morty season is actually not dark at all compared to the previous two?
It has been a great season for personality development of everyone , except for Rick himself . I guess if the show wants to run for long periods of time , it should provide more information about the side characters in the family. Rick , though, well they need to provide more in depth look at him. We already know that he is an arrogant , narcisits , eccentric genious psychopath , and repeating the same thing will get boring soon. For this reason, I really loved episodes like authoerrotic assimilation or total riccall , because they provided new aspect to his personality.
Also , I don't like how they have increased the violence and gore. The purge episode was the weakest episode , exactly because it heavily relies on killing and violnce and not much depth is provided.
The most important aspect that I have missed in the blatant nihilism seen in episodes like Ricks must be crazy or Meeseeck and destroy. I guess too much of family drama does not leave room for that stuff. Also , they are putting too many poop jokes .
I was disappointed that the pickle Rick was not about someone wanting to use Rick as a dildo , and Rick trying to scape the situation and getting trumatized over sexual assult this is the type of dark comedy I would expect from the show.
I loved how they pissed on superhero movies, that was a fun episode. The max mad episode was really week , though .
The conspiracy episode, well , the main plot was great. I loved the Westworld reference, but the subplot was just really week: What happened was kinda predictable . I'm getting tired of Morty trying to be the voice of reason and making speeches against Rick.
By the way, did anyone else get the Tool reference on that episode ?

For anyone, who hasn't seen any of Twin Peaks, here's some advice: don't bother with the series. Some have rightfully called the original run outdated (kudos Marcel), but it is not worth seeing the first 2 seasons even to enjoy the 3d one. TP 2017 It had its moments, but the ending was boring and emotionally uningaging beyond belief. This had nothing to do with being confusing or moving on slowly, as I loved almost all of the earlier episodes, including the 9th one (favorite one overall by far), the ending was just plain bad. Goddamn you, David Lynch, you broke my heart.

Game of Thrones was the last one. It felt too short though, even though I liked it. I guess I'm just so attached to the characters now.

Now I want to watch Broad City's new season, finish One Day At a Time and maybe discover some other comedies. I'm in the mood for that lately.

Finally got around to True Detective (first season). Man it's good, atmospheric as hell and there's no unnecessary action or cheap thrills to manipulate the viewer, as in most crime/mystery shows. I especially love that they've picked the Handsome Family song for the opening credits, one of the best contemporary country bands there is and perfectly captures the tone for the series.

I guess Expanse s2 is next, and maybe I'll take a look at Star Trek at some point. The trailers do not look promising, though.

And about the ancient series, I'm now watching Alf and Dinosaurs (the humor series created by Henson and about a family of dinosaurs, that's funny a lot).

There are S1 whit 2 episodes and S2 whit 2, but 2th is not out yet.
Rowan Atkinson, perfect role, quet, thinker, calm and great. This has all where British meats Europe, where old school meats modern. after WWII Paris, detective, btw nice they are drinking beer at work, I like 60's medeteranian alcohol culture, IMO you could drive a car after wine.
Irony is an English man plays French cop, and do it well. His French name pronaumnsation is good. I wish this was maybe more like series hmm S3 whit 6 and so on. Interesting. I like old French dick films, and this fits perfectly

You didn't grow up in the Eighties so that helps due to the immense amount of references to Eighties teenage culture (pop culture and otherwise)

You may be right about that, but it's not only that, it's the whole thing with the show being called "scary" and "weird", when really it's not.

I watched S1 only now, and I'm 2/3 into S2. I liked the first very much. It's not the 80s references (although that is cool, for someone who grew up watching those films on VHS even if I wasn't born until '89). It's just that it's so classy and polished. Brilliant music and visual design, really quite good actors with sympathetic characters, and the pacing is great. The story was a bit whatever, nothing inventive or titillating, but it did the job. Individual episodes felt like their own entities, things were always moving along and there wasn't too much action. It also worked really well to see the three lines of investigation (nerds, teens and Joyce/Hopper) move separately.

I don't think it's "scary" in the "ohmygodgetmeoutofhere" way, but it's delightfully atmospheric and spooky. It's not like the movies it references were particularly scary either.

The second season is a little worrying. I think I've seen 6 episodes now and it feels like it still hasn't started. S1 begins with Will disappearing, but now they just reminescence about the previous season, hang out in arcades, visit people, chase stuff, etc. It's also a lot less tense when the major players in the story are already out in the open. It looks and sounds great, as usual, but the tension and pacing feels off. It's still good, just not as great.

It thought the show was a blatant reference to Freaks and Geeks, to be honest. Well, apart from the mystery/horror elements. The dynamics of the kids are very similar.

Yeah, I can see that sort of. It's not my kind of scary. What I find scary is shit like Inland Empire, Videodrome, and The Thing

Here are my favourite TV Series in no particular order (if anyone even gives a shit lol).

(list)

Of course we give a shit. A pretty patchy list there, I'd say, some of the all time greats and some of very dubious quality. Well, Dexter was great for about half its run and first season of Prison Break is really good but but then those two screwed up big time.

I'd definitely keep The Wire (best series ever, yada yada, but it really is...), The Shield (is it underrated? Anyway it's like Breaking Bad on meth...), Breaking Bad (maybe a bit overrated but damn good) and maybe Supernatural as a guilty pleasure. Then adding Hannibal (best series since The Wire), Twin Peaks (with season 3 maybe this will beat The Wire for #1), Peaky Blinders, Deadwood, Oz, True Detective (season 1 only ofc) and Les Revenants (French mystery, quite unique and soundtrack by Mogwai to boot)

Some comedy wouldn't hurt... "Dag" (Norwegian/Swedish drama/comedy - funniest and/or most depressing shit ever, screw language barriers and watch it already, everyone!), Trailer Park Boys, Rick & Morty, Last Week Tonight and Sunny in Philadelphia. And, crap, yes my biggest guilty pleasure of all time: Stargate SG-1...

Well that's off the top of my head anyway. Currently not watching crap but I've heard great things about Stranger Things, Black Mirror and some new surrealistic (German?) thing called Dark - I've anyone here's watched them feel free to drop a comment. Yes I can see you're already discussing one of them above but do you think I'll like any of them judging by my preferences stated here? I was not around in the 80's, for instance...
