Speaking of Nightwish, I have a feeling that Tarja Turunen is going get fans to gain support to go solo or do some business move, because Tarja is the Icon of the band, she is very very valuable in the corporative music world. I wonder if she got any offers from record companies or bands...

Simone and Sabine (Edenbridge) don't sing the same way Tarja does (or did), so I think it's not worth comparing these two to Tarja.
Moreover, a band is not only the vocals but also the musicians, and their way of playing, and the compositions. And once again these three bands don't play the same style, even if they're not a million lightyear from each other.

@dagnytaggart : you forgot Lullacry in your list

Nightwish. Regardless of their issues with Tarja and if people consider them sell-outs. I've always enjoyed their music. I own Oceanborn, Wishmaster, Century Child and Once, and they're all great albums.

If we talk about female-fronted bands, we're doing a generalization that may not be appropiated. Arch Enemy is also a female-fronted band, and has nothing to do with Lacuna Coil or Epica. Even Nightwish is part of a differente genre from the rest of the bands in the poll. Nightwish is (symphonic) power metal, while the rest of the bands are gothic.

I voted Nightwish not because I prefer power than gothic. It was because Nightwish have a large trajectory of very good albums, even "Once". Tuomas is one of the best keyboardist I've ever heard. Their live performances kick ass.

But I prefer Floor Jansen's vocals than Tarja's

BTW poor Xandria, no votes. It's a very good band too.

Ok, didn't understand it in that way. About Simone and Tarja, I can't say about the kind of soprano they sing, but Tarja sings in a more power way than Simone. They are in two different bands and don't use their voice the same way. Well, there's not a gap between the two anyway. They're three great bands.

False, not all. Epica has a particular atmosphere but is not gothic. For Within Temptation, they have nothing to do with gothic, especially the 'The Silent Force' album (last one).

WTF, why AE is not in the list? The question is about the band, not the voice, so AE should be here. Actualy is not mutch original but from that list only Epica is original and creative.

My vote goes to Nightwish, but it was a hard choise. Nightwish is just special IMO.

-After Forever: Floor is an amazing singer, she have a powerful voice, a lot of energy. I saw her in concert and is so amazing... I prefer their music with Mark but they also make great music after he leave the band.I like that they are kind of hard if you compare their sound with the other bands here.

-Epica: with the sweet Simone... This woman have a really sweet voice, and her voice make you go to another world... i don't know... I like of course their music (Ok I love Mark, what can I do), the lyrics and the whole symphonic elements.

-Within Temptation: Ok right now I can't stand Sharon voice... may be she have something, but i don't like it. About their music... I'm not sure, I have a few songs but I can't hear his group just because Sharon's voice...

-Nightwish: Tarja... Ok, this is the most famous female singer, very unique, a lot o technique and emotion while she sings... and she have (well, at least she had) a good suport in their band. Tuomas and Marco make their music very enjoyable, and Marco with Tarja, I mean when they sing together... I LOVE IT!

-Xandria: I don't have a real opinion about the singer... but i like a lot the band, I have not take enough attention to the band but I like some songs.

-The Gathering: this is very original, this woman have a beautiful voice, and some kind of.. energy... atmosphere. I like a lot their music, i find it very relaxing. This band is a example of different music, i like it a lot

-Theatre Of Tragedy: The first albums are great but (don't kill me) i don't like Liv Kristine's voice... But what the hell, this band is amazing too... I like Aegis and the first album is one of my favorites. The new singer, well she is normal, nothing special. Just my opinion. This is one ban I enjoy even if I don't really like the woman that sing

-Lacuna Coil: Ok, this one is weird for me. i don't think that Cristina Scabbia have the most original, or powerful or beautiful voice, the same for Andrea. But as I say in their thread the whole band is good. I mean, the balance the have together is what I like.

But if I can choose another i choose: Theatre des vampires: Really unique. Sonya Scarlet (kind of porn lol) is, well is Sonya Scarlet... She is crazy and she is THE show, i love the music of this band really great... The vampire lyrics, the dark and suffocating sound... I just love them

I actually havn't heard to many female fronted bands, and most of the ones I have heard sucks big time, but one of the few that's good that I've heard is Arch enemy, Angela Gossow Definitly makes up for all the suckage of the majority of female fronted Bands.

I would like to again specify that I havn't really heard to many female fronted bands, so if anyone has any suggestions I'd be happy to take them.

Why people thi´nk so, women cant rock, some of those women rock better how some man singer bands, better dont mention witch one, but about Theatres Des Vampires, I know them, yes they arent popular, but I dont like this band so much, but still band are good.

And I agry about Cristian, she has only lock, or maybe not.

I voted for Theatre of Tragedy. I simply love their albums with Liv Kristine. She has a perfect, gorgeous voice. Leaves Eyes doesn't quite work for me, but that's a topic for another discussion.

I also adore The Gathering and Opera IX. They both put out excellent music. The problem I have with many female-fronted bands is that the other band members tend to hide behind them after a while..."Look, we have a chick vocalist, isn't she great!" --Instead of continuing to be musically creative.

An almost 'all-female' (except their drummer) Death Metal Band from Norway.

I voted for other because I think Angela Gossow and Arch Enemy are best they put on such an intense live show and all of their albums with her are great she's also got the scream down pretty well. I wouldn't say their really the most original band though either way they still kick ass.

Sheeesh! this has almost turned into an Arch Enemy thread, I would vote other for Elisa Candelas Martin's efforts, she's a very original vocalist in my opinion... especially her work in Dark Moor and to a lesser degree, Dreamaker.
