Has anything happened to you involving metal that is just generally shameful, sad, or downright bad.

One of my examples is.... A few of my CD's were recently stolen from me.
At The Gates - Slaughter of The Soul
Satyricon - Dark Medieval Times,
Agalloch - Ashes Against the Grain
Immortal - Damed in Black and Diabolical Full Moon Mysticism
Dark Tranquillity - Haven, Fiction, and The Minds Eye
Wintersun - Wintersun
and the worst one of all because its gonna be so hard for me to get a new one.... Windir - 1184

I am and was VERY pissed off...

I think I can mention Green Carnation's end. Yes, I know Tchort claims to be writing something but I'm still not convinced. And besides it's not the band I loved.

I think that's a metal tragedy, at least for me because I'm so connected to their music.

Overall travesty:
American media selling "rock" as "metal" (that metal show for an example)
Metallica's Load album..... (Actually everything since)
&
Judas Priest not putting out another album to say "Farewell"

Personal:
Aria Galactica still isn't out..... It's becoming like Atlantis now.....
Bruce Dickinson's not putting out a solo album since being back in Iron Maiden.....
&
A house fire killed a huge collection of music on 08....

"Honorable" mentions:
- Skyfire takes too long with studio work
- The lead singer of colllsseum
- Cipher System's lacking band members to do another album

"Welcome to That Metal Show, Your home for all things Hard Rock and Heavy Metal." They say it right from the start, its not only a metal show, as the title would suggest.

Yeah but you got one of the guys weraing an amon amarth shit and they don't talk about them?

I also wrote in asking abotu the whole deal with not including a lot of bands (death metal and black metal genre bands... Amon Amarth being one metal band I did mention too, I also made a short list) and they said that it didn't run with the format for VH1 profile and that most of the bands I said "arent' popular enough to get show time". It's there to sell cock rock and people who are on american labels. So basically it's saying that the bands that actually these bands aren't commercial enough. (To an extent the thing i am cool with is that they're not "piss ass fake" or "Gaudy crap" enough for American sales tactics.)

Forgive me but if it's "all things" they're excluding a huge ass segment of metal. Metal generally begets metal and normally when it comes to metalheads it's about "hey have you heard of these guys? They totally (Put some form of they're shit or praise here) " is usually the format. Sorry but if it's about selling classic rock and cock rock under the metal banner then it's sorta not following the format to metal. Granted, Lemmy, Halford, Alice have been on the show and that's awesome. I think having "Forefathers" around is a plus but the things they're missing in the entire show is the deal with "being real about the music".

Very true, never really thought about it like that. However, you are kind of switching what your argument is....

Quote:

Was your original statement, and now you have switched it to the fact that they do not talk about every genre of metal? Yeah, they basically keep it to just classic heavy metal and thrash, but its on VH1, that's the best we're gonna get.

"that metal show" features a variety of artists and content. i've seen three shows, and those have included Frank Bello of Anthrax (metal?), having tea with Lemmy (is he metal? ) and contained an album battle between Pantera's "Vulgar Display" and Slayer's "Reign In Blood". not sure, but i am fairly certain those qualify as metal.

sorry if their tastes extend beyond yours.

I went to the 'Tattoo the Planet' tour headlined by Pantera & Slayer in Birmingham, Uk on 14th Sept 2001. Because of the terrorist attacks 3 days earlier, Pantera pulled out despite being in the country already & unable to fly home due to all the chaos going on.

I never got the opportunity to see them live after that & now i never will, despite having a ticket for one of their shows

The ones that has affected me the most are:
- Theatre Of Tragedy disbanding
- The death of Peter Steele and Type O Negative
- The death of B and Lifelover.

The last one takes the cake by far tbh.

Yeah Peter Steele one was shocking. It was suddenly. They were supposed to release an album then right?

Lifelover as well, but I'm not a big fan of them.

Fail to see why, every person has a different way to handle things like that specially if the musician's music meant a lot to a certain person. Feelings are certainly not stupid just because you don't share them. Case in point: This.
I didn't really get that sad because of Dio's death but I can understand why his fans and those who felt his music much more felt really bad about it.

The only thing that I don't understand is when people say "rip x" when person X passed away before they even knew the musician and his music or when person x died before one's lifetime, that's the only case right now I can think of as "idiotic".... Like Chuck.

Very much possible, I'd feel a little down too, but nothing I'd deem a "terrible tragedy". If I don't know the person, I find it hard to care all too much.

Also, RIP Chuck Schuldiner. For the umpteenth time.

Oh I see your point I just think that we have to put some emphasis on the title "metal tragedy"... if the title was something like "metal tragedy that affected your life" then sure as hell I wouldn't post anything here if yous ee what I mean. This is for "metal tragedies" not "life tragedies". That's how I see it anyway

I was disappointed when Theatre of Tragedy disbanded, especially because I never had the chance to attend any gig of theirs. The dissolution of Beseech was also sad news for me. At least I had seen them live and besides, they did continue, just under a new name which reminds me that I should check out the stuff they've been doing meanwhile.

Nope....can't say I've had any metal tragedys....or?
The death of RJD: sad but not a tragedy
Daniel Heiman leaving Lost Horizon: True bummer, but not a tragedy
Daniel Heiman leaving Heed (puting it on ice): Bummer, but not a tragedy
Daniel Heiman becomes a singer for Lavett: FFS! now that's a tragedy...such a talented singer in such a mediocre band
Missed the last Iron Maiden consert: Sad and a little bit pissed off....could be a tragedy
That metal show: or how about middle aged men talking about the music they listened to back in the days....how about talking about a band or having a guest that didn't tour during the 80's and 90's.....sad but not a tragedy

Not seeing Heaven & Hell a few years ago when I had the chance to. I had the money to pay for parking and tickets, the day requested off from work, and a ride. (My ride didn't get there either, but that's no consolation).

Not seeing Kamelot with Roy Khan. Didn't feel like blowing 37 dollars for tickets, but I actually did buy The Black Halo and Epica instead of going to the show. Saw Kamelot with the other guy (Fabio Leone?) and it was a great show even with his passable imitation of Roy Khan.

Oh, and I saw my favorite group at the time (All That Remains got me to listen to music with harsher vocals with little adjustment) at Mayhem Fest and realized how horrible they were playing live. Oh, and they were the only group who had chicks singing along to the music with maybe one half-assed most pit.... really really ruined it for me, but I still regard a few songs fondly but nothing new)
