Everyone in MS like metal but I'd like to know the reasons.
Personally, I like metal because:
*Metal is a really creative music, because you find lots of different styles, from melodic metal, combinated with classical, epic, medieval music to extreme metal.
*I feel represented with metal, due to the variety of genres, I feel represented specially with melodic
*Many metal bands are full of culture
*In metal you find true musicians that don't do that music that you hear for some months and then it's completly forgotten
*Many musicians and metalheads are really interesting people and thanks to metal, now I feel that I have really good friends
These are the reasons I remember now, what I can affirm is that since I listen to metal, I'm a very different person, and I find many things of myself thanks to it .
So, what about you?

the power of metal overwhelms me, it really does. the feeling an emotional solo can give u cannot be described. the translation of feelings into musical notes could not be more perfect than in metal. that feeling u get with one riff, something that grows in your body and you suddenly feel better. the abstraction factor, the escape from reality factor. no other genre like metal does that for me in the depth i need. the talent of the players, the difficulty then can reach in their technique or the perfection in simplicity. the "theres is more to life than what is shown to us" attitude. all of this and much more but i wont be here all day;D

@ SirenOfTheStyx: Well, I dont know any --> SANE <-- person that would jump out of a window just because they listened to a band with gory lyrics (And seriously what death / goregrind bands write about jumping out of windows anyway??). Sure you can get encouragement to suicide or other violent acts by music. But think again.... Dont you think there are other more influencing aspects we are forgetting? For example traumatic experiances that lead to suicide or something. I mean seriously killing yourself because an album says so is just silly. Infact, if you do kill yourself because someone told you to kill yourself I wont sympatize with you. I mean If you are so weak you cant even stand up for yourself in such a situation you might just as well be better off dead. I dont mind at all people telling other people in their texts to kill themselves. Its up to the listener to accept that when listening to the artist. Cheers Sorry for offtopic... @ Siren of the styx : If you want to continue the conversation please do it in PM, so we can get back on topic.

This music goes deep inside you. And if you sing, you know how deep it runs. Surfing the notes of Angra's Carry On is a trip to the clouds and back, staring to the stars at night listening to Nightwish's Oceanborn take your soul to places, walking down the road with DB's Progenie of The Great Apocalipse in your headphones is Earth-shaking as listening to Sentenced's Farewell after you broke with your partner is heartbreaking. We do have the best musicians of the planet and the most unbelievable melodies of the universe, this music is part of our lives, as it can be part of our deaths, siren. We are the bad guys with the black shirts, and we know exactly where we stand. They don't know shit and let's keep it that way. Extreme emotions, just what I need. By the way, I don't like metal, I LOVE it!

I think the same as you: we hear many songs with strange, violent and sad lyrics, even in melodic bands, why: I don't know, I think that one reason may be that we have a different side in our ives, and we want to feel different feelings for some time. I don't listen to grind, black or extreme genres, but I do feel that many songs I listen to have something more. Now another question: do metalheads (or just people who listen to metal, but don't consider them as metalheads, like me for instance), have felt that they're rejected or feel that they don't fit at all in society?. that could be another reason, imo.

I love metal because its heavy and powerful, theres so much variety within the genre that you wont find in any other type of music.....That and it makes me feel totally badass.

I agree with you, BloodTears. I guess there's always a need for art to escape conformity and touch the dark, hidden side no one wants to hear about. Still, it can be an interesting question to ask yourself why you're in that, like The Alchemist said

Now I'm not that interested in the dark side, but in art in general, since there are so many styles among the bands, and art is not only the music, also album covers and booklets

I love it cause it's heavy, loud, fricken fast and makes me want to . Also there isn't much else you can listen to besides metal, I mean come on, rap/hip hop? Country? Punk/Emo? Pop? I'd have to be pretty high to listen to that stuff .

I like metal 'cause I grew up listening to it. My brother's room was filled with metal stuff and I used to listen to it. I guess thats why. Nowadays I like it 'cause of the complexitys it has within it.

It's interesting, when I'm stressed out and pissed off at the world, I listen to classical music to calm me down. When I'm at peace with the world, and everything is going great, I listen to metal and hard music to rev me up So the pattern goes something like this... I want to kill someone -> classical music -> feeling calm -> metal music -> I want to kill someone -> classical music -> feeling calm -> metal music -> I want to kill someone -> classical music -> feeling calm -> metal music -> I want to kill someone -> classical music -> feeling calm -> metal music -> I want to kill someone -> classical music -> feeling calm -> metal music -> I want to kill someone -> classical music -> feeling calm -> metal music -> and so on...

I like Metal because for one thing its all abuot the music. Not how many bobblehead guys I can sell with my face on it. I love and respect the longetivty of the bands, so many bands I listen to have been together for 20+ years and counting. The music is like water in my viens, it has so much emotion and has such a huge impact on my life, without I dunno what I could possible do to get another release. The Music speaks to me, its almost like a spiritual relationship, I feel almost like an outcast to society but with metal I know Im a perfect fit, whether it at a show or just driving around in my car with a CD blaring.

in my opinion, Heavy Metal is the most complex and variated genre of music, I agree with The Alchemist, but there are other reasons for me: - My parents hates metal, so I, as a good son, started to listen metal, the more they hate, the more i listen. - The sound of the guitars just takes me to another dimension, both acoustic and electric. - The strong and true lyrics that come from the musicians - How some bands can actually merge aggressive rhytms and melodic passages without being dissonant. - The energy of the music - Is the best escape from accumulated violence and stress - Is not pop, nor hip-hop

I like metal not so much because of agression, I don't even listen extreme subgenres much, for me its the combination of beauty and power. I find melodic genres very beautiful, atmospheric and emotional, but same time strong. Metal, specially my favourite, symphonic metal, has classical influence, which is also important. Its hard to find music genres that use opera vocals, choirs and string orchestra.

I just realized that metal has limitless possibilities, Metal has borrowed styles from so many other forms of music its great, theres always more to discover which always makes good conversation material, when I ever get bored with friends and we have nothing left to do/say, theres always metal to discuss.

Why I love metal? I don't know, I just like it! Probably I was bored from the dance/beat/pop stuff I was listening to before... Although I remember myself fascinated by the sound of the electric guitar, from my childhood years. But I didn't like metal then, or at least what I was listening on the radio...

It's unafraid to cover emotions and atmospheres that other genres would nto dare tread. Fromt he utter misery and DOOM of doom metal, to the masculine honerable warriorlike agression of amon amarth, ot the misanthropy of Burzum, to the unrestrained romantic grandeur of Nightwish. It's so huge and shamelessly over the top.

The reason why I like metal, is the guitars. I really like to listen to riffs and solos. The guitars have to be heavy or melodic, for me. If not...
