This is a Thread to Discuss the last Band DVD you watched. It can be any Genre of Music, Not neceserrily Metal, maby you just got done with some Pink Floyd.

But as for me, the last one I watched was Iron Maidens DVD "Raising Hell" which was Bruce Dickonsons last show before leaving for ten years It was a good show oveall but the performances were disapointing in comparison to say Live at the rainbow or beast over hammersmith.

Evergrey - A Night To Remember

Green Carnation - Alive and Well...

Let me just tell you that these two bands, in my humble opinion, are among the best of what progressive metal has to offer, lets just say progressive music for the purist of metal.

Fortunately I'm in the possession of two brilliant live DVD's. About Evergrey, they played all my favourite songs, including "Solitude Within", "Nosferatu" from my favourite solitude dominance tragedy and then "a touch of blessing" and "a recreation day" and "blinded". Those are the highlights for me. Of course the whole set is great, and they play a lot of songs, couldnt ask for me. They even bring a strings trio and other singers, good performance overall. The audience were cooperative and cheery, I just hoped the venue would have been a bigger one, but these things are not easy.

About Green Carnation, I do have a complaint to make: I wanted more songs!! lol ButI'm happy with the ones they played because coincidentally, most of them were from "a blessing in disguise", my favourite album by them. I think it was great that they played "light of day, day of darkness" because it is a beautiful piece.
To sum up, I liked the performance and the setlist, although I think 8 songs is not enough even though some of them are long. Maybe this is my problem cuz I'm used to Dream Theater sets of two and half hours or more I thought the audience was a bit frigid at times but seemed to enjoy themselves, I get the feeling most of them didn't really know them very well.

The last one I've seen was Evergrey - A Night to Remember.
Evergrey are one of my favourite progressive bands and this concert surprised me a lot. The performance was perfect, not only the band, but also the backing vocals, the violinists.. everything was very well arranged. As my mate says: they played all my favourite songs, including "Solitude Within", "Nosferatu", A Touch Of Blessing, Blinded and I'll add "She Speaks to the Dead" and all the songs from my fav album, In Search of Truth (The Masterplan was awesome!). What can I say more?.. it's a perfect live DVD and it's great to watch the audience screaming "THE MASTERPLAN" at the end.

The Philosopher
I just watched God Forbid's new DVD for the first time last night. I watched every featurte on it except for the live footage, so I can't really make any comment on that. I thought that the skit "The real Black Metal" was pretty funny. Especially the concept of the Africa-gram lol. THe documentery was hillarious too, because while they successfully told their story, they did it in "dramatic reinactments" that just made me laugh my ass off. it was great. Videos were good...I mean, they were videos. Lastly, the Motorcycle thing was just kind of random....cool, but random.

It was In Flames' Used and Abused In Live We Trust.

I love In Flames and I never saw them live and I had to check them out. Their show on hammersmith was sweet Although I must say I was a bit put out by the new songs, I'm not really a fan of their new stuff at all even if Come Clarity was their best effort since Clayman really. I enjoyed the show on sticky fingers, the "oldies set", they played songs I love and that makes the DVD worth it and you can see the fans go wild with the old songs, it's great.

The second disc has an interesting account on their tours and shows but the videos don't interest me that me.

I guess the DVD is enjyoable because of the sticky fingers show and the 2 songs on the Sountrack Tour 2004. There's no doubt that they are a good live band, a lot of energy involved and the band seems to be having a lot of fun, that's all you can ask really.

Iron Maiden - Live After Death

A great DVD, great concert, and some cool extras. I really enjoyed 'the History of Iron Maiden part 2'. Although, I was somewhat dissapointed that it was only about 'Powerslave'. I thought it might've included stuff about Somewhere In Time and Seventh Son of a Seventh Son. Oh well, it was still awesome!

Alice Cooper's The Nightmare Returns

Great show from '87. Alice looks sometimes so fragile on there that it makes me think that he's gonna hurt himself really if he falls. Kane Roberts on guitar is quite horrible to watch (no wonder it's called horror rock ) Shame that Raise your Fist and Yell album songs weren't yet in the setlist. Alice is the master of entertainment.

Arch Enemy - Tyrants of the Rising Sun

Opeth - The Roundhouse Tapes

Both very intense shows. The only downside of AE's performance was that they didn't include as much older songs I would like, but I get it. Silverwing and Dark Insanity worked pretty well though. I was eager for some old songs and to see how new ones work out live. And they played "Vultures" and Night Falls Fast and they work really well live. Overall, very good performance, amazing crowd (no doubt about it), I wanted to be there in the middle, so that's a homerun.

Opeth is very different of course, unlike AE's show, they had plenty of pearls there, basically the whole show was about old songs, they played my favourite Morningrise song and my favourite Orchid song. Of course "when" and "blackwater park" were pretty damn great. I feel that in an Opeth show you can get into an "Opeth trance" and its so different than anything else. It's a good change after Lamentations, I feel they did this show and this setlist for the fans, and I appreciate that. It's a great DVD, I'm proud to own it, I'm definately a fan-girl! A night to remember.

Nevermore - The Year Of The Voyager

The first thing that comes into my mind is the noticeable hard work of the band to get everything right for the DVD. I mean, I've seen some performances on videos (never seen them live unfortunately) and they didn't seem to be half careful. But that's a good thing, it came out a really nice concert. The sound is really good, their performance.. everything was perfect. The setlist was good too, considering that they played a handful of old songs from the first 2 albums, like "Next In Line", "Matricide" and "What Tomorrow Knows". They were careful enough to include at least 2 songs from each album. The crowd was great too.. always jumping, headbanging, a few mosh pits and bodies surfing around. I really enjoyed the DVD.. very energetic, powerful and funny sometimes.. like when Warren Dane introduces "The Heart Collector" and they start the first riffs of "Born" LOL Damn funny
Great DVD, but I'm a little sad cause they didn't play "We Disintegrate" and the extra CD doesn't have any backstage footage..

Therion - Live Gothic

It was a very good live with a good production and performance. Therion is always interesting for me. But they didnt do Vovin album's songs well! IMO. I love that album and the most important part the album is about the females vocals. Martina Hornbacher and Sarah Jezebel Deva r missing at this live! cause Katarina Lilja and Snowy Shaw cant sing the that album as well. But my overal point for this live is 9. I recommend it for any fan of Therion or Symphonic metal.

Death- Live in LA

Pretty epic performance. The way they opened up the show was killer, and Steve DiGorgio always kills. There were no real amazing spectacle effects on stage, which is okay, because they were more concerned with playing their shit than showing off. An amazing thing to watch on the aniversery of Chucks death. Thanks man, and R.I.P.

Vader - And Blood Was Shed In Warsaw

Vader never cease to amaze me. They are probably the best death metal band out there. They don't write pathetic lyrics like a lot of death metal bands, their songs are actually interesting and fresh and they have a thrashy side as well that makes you headbang beyond belief.

This was a great show, a lot of energy going (I'm sure they take speed for endurance). They really impress me with the diversity in their songs, they can have catchy song, elaborated songs, simple melodies, complex riffs. It's a joy for my ears and it's a band that stands out.

Good interview too. Great DVD.
