In the old forum there was a thread dedicated to mention and discuss by giving your views about the bands' DVD releasing. Since the creator did not take the time in bringing it alive again and since I am very fond of buying DVDs from bands I decided to do it myself.

My collection, to this very same day, consists of the following DVDs:

I can say that all those DVDs I own are an enjoyment except for the DVD from Shadows Fall which was one of the greatest disappointments I have had in my life due to its lack of camera angles and sound quality. I also have some Dual Discs and bonus DVDs that come with albums but, since they are more like a bonus rather than an actual DVD, I decided to leave them behind for a fitting thread instead. Now, what do you have?

Well, after looking at the site, it seems I can't order anything in US Dollars. Does the site do currency exchanges?

I have no idea, you would have to ask them.

I finally saw both the "Scars Of Sabbath" and the "Invite To Immorality" DVDs. Each one has its ups and downs in comparison to the other:

Scars Of Sabbath

Positive:

It has great camera angles with a big stage that allows them to move freely and have a better stage presence. Mana looks more feminine. The live set has "Solitude", one of my favorite songs from Moi Dix Mois. The "Perish" song sounds perfect in this concert.

Negative:

Yuka looks less grim here. The DVD lacks of the following positive points which "Invite To Immorality" has?

Invite To Immorality

Positive:

K is in the concert! His screams give the music another dimension and even give more freedom to Yuka for singing with his clean vocals. Yuka looks very serious in this DVD, differing from his appearance in "Scars Of Sabbath" which, without being bad, was not as good as in here. The song "unmoved" is played here. The track listing of the concert is more varied. The moment when K, Yuka, Kazuno and Mana got in the front of the stage and stood together brought chills down my spine!

Negative:

Mana looks less feminine. There is no "Solitude" in the live set (unforgivable). The stage is very little and forces Kazuno to be behind the others in the stage, what results in him not being seen in the far shots; it could have been better if the show was recorded in a bigger place. The song "Perish" is not played as it was in the first DVD; it is as my History of Music professor told me: "Music is very egoist and it never sounds the same twice so every experience, every show is unique." I think that Mana played "Perish" better in the other DVD.

Both have negative points but, when you have both, they complement each other so it is all right.

Just got two new DVD's to add to my collection:
Dream Theater - Score
One of the best DVD's I've ever seen great sound and preformance and the orchestra just adds to how great it is definently my favorite Dream Theater DVD yet.

Arch Enemy - Live Apocolypse
This DVD was also amazing any fan should definently go out and buy it right now.

I also bought the Arch Enemy DVD.

I have seen the live concert up until now. It has a great sound quality and cameral angles (they even divide the screen at times in four squares so that you can see what is happening in the moment from several angles).

The drummer, Daniel Erlandsson, makes this insane drums solo accompanied by some synthesized choruses which ends up bringing chills down your spine. How the samples coordinate with the drumming of Daniel is just fukken unbelievable.

There are always some songs which we would like to hear in the set list but that is not possible when bands have several albums such as Arch Enemy does; we must understand this. It does not matter, for the songs in the DVD are all killers and it is an enjoyment.

Anyone who enjoys all Arch Enemy's works can enjoy this DVD pretty much as I have; I recommend it.

I just saw some live performances from that DVD and I felt that I had to buy this DVD. It cost me only $13.95 but including shipping and insurance it got to $22.40. It is a sum that I consider to be more than reasonable.

Bitter Dawn
Ave Sathanas!
I've got a few.

Opeth - Lamentations (good buy, it gave a good impression of what the guys are like.)

Cradle Of Filth - Peace Through Superior Firepower
Cradle Of Filth - Heavy Left Handed & Candid
Cradle Of Filth - PanDaemonAeon

I don't know why I keep buying the CoF dvd's, they get progressively worse each time. High hopes on my behalf I guess.

Superjoint Ritual (not much to be said about it, just good old pure metal, no special effects or anything, just the band on stage.)

Rammstein - Live Aus Berlin
Rammstein - Lichtspielhaus

Live Aus Berlin has a lot of fire performances, pretty entertaining. Lichtspielhaus is a nice compilation of their career up to "Mutter"

Slayer - War At The Warfield (Why go to see Slayer if you can just watch them at home, it's not bad. I've seen them a few times live so owning this suffices from here on I think.)

Marilyn Manson - God, Guns & Government (Manson putting on a decent performance as usual, he pisses himself near the end of the concert, and there is some behind the scenes tour footage.

Skinny Puppy - Greater Wrong Of The Right (It was interesting, some cool effects lain overtop the live footage, I had never seen Skinny Puppy footage before so it was new to me, and I haven't watched the second disc yet.)

Dimmu Borgir - World Misanthropy (Decent compilation of live footage, some behind the scenes footage, interview with the band members. Not what I expected, but not bad.)

I think that is all.

Today I purchased another dvd to add to my collection:
Sounds of the Underground - Live Volume 1
Not a bad compilation dvd has great sound quality and has some great bands on it like Strapping Young Lad, Gwar, High On Fire, Clutch, Lamb of God, and A Life Once Lost. DVD also contains some pretty funny backstage stuff. My only problem with the dvd is it doesn't feature the best band from the tour Opeth.

I grimly added the following DVDs to my list:

1) Emperor - Emperial Live Ceremony ($13.99)

I already had some live performances off this DVD downloaded in my computer and they showed good camera angles (though it seemed that the camera focuses too much in Ihsahn over the rest of the musicians, at least the videos I saw) and great sound quality. Although I know that the DVD has too few songs performed, I considered this DVD a must have and I decided to buy it.

2) Mayhem - Europena Legions Live At Marseille ($12.29)

Off this DVD I only found a live performance of the grim "Deathcrush" song, with very low volume though. I have been hesitating to buy this DVD for a long time and I finally did.

Am I the only one here who buys DVD regularily:

1) In Flames - Used & Abused... In Live We Trust ($11.16)

I have been playing with the idea of buying this DVD for a long time and, since I am currently in crush with the band (with their Come Clarity power ballad to be more precise), I felt it was the right time to do it. The DVD has a huge track listing with different shows and even when some songs are repeated various time it is a great track listing. One highlight of this DVD would be the Pantera's cover they play: "Fucking Hostile" which pumped me up and made me feel shivers when I heard it. Unfortunately, they don't play the song entirely because they cut the song right before the solo. Could it be that they couldn't play the solo of Dime the Metal God?

I hope this DVD gets to arrive to me soon.

2) Dimmu Borgir - World Misanthropy ($18.00)

I already have several videos downloaded off this DVD but there is nothing better than DVD quality, right? This DVD supposedly contains two shows from Dimmu Borgir and I am interested more in the second CD which has a grim show in Poland, with a grim track listing.

I just got another dvd awhile a few days ago:

Amon Amarth - Wrath of the Norsemen
Well this is the best deal out of any metal dvd I have ever purchased 3 discs for $25. All five concerts on it are very well mixed and good quality. They play songs spanning their entire discography on it. On the first disc there's also a Biography thing but it kind of sucks alot. The best part of the entire dvd though is when they have a battle on stage between to Viking groups that lasts for about 5 minutes.

Finally a reply to this thread other than mines.

I had that same DVD on my hands and I ungrimly let the chance of owning it pass. Then, when I returned to Hot Topic to buy it this time, the DVD was not to be found anymore. Now I will have to buy it through the Internet or something.

The latest additions to my now vast collection of DVDs are:

1) Epica - We Will Take You With Us ($10.64)

I already downloaded a couple of videos off this DVD and I felt that I needed to buy this DVD. It has a great sound quality and cameral angles, taking place within a studio what makes the occasion more personal. Simone Simmons looks just stunning, with her demurred attitude and subtle yet charming smiles. The performance of the band in overall is great, as far as what I have seen to this moment. Additionally, I think, this DVD comes with an audio CD from the live recording in the studio what comes to be a great plus.

2) Dissection - Rebirth Of Dissection ($10.64)

Any fan of Dissection should get a hold of this DVD for, sadly, we won't be able to watch Dissection playing live again, or in my case I couldn't and never will. The DVD has a kick ass track listing and the video for "Starless Aeon", song which I find to be very emotional.

@?Bodomchild?:

I am far from even having half of what I would if I could. lol

--------------------

The latest addition to my collection comes to be:

Metallica - The Videos 1989 - 2004 ($19.99) + Fukken Tax (Fukken politicians of shit!)

I have to admit that I bought this album mainly because I have only found crappy versions of the "One" music video and I wanted to have a decent, DVD quality version of this blasphemous video. Regarding the DVD, the DVD delivers what it promises: the videos that Metallica has released, or at least the ones I have known of. I already had all this videos in my computer but a considerate number of them had a crappy quality and thus now I come to enjoy them more than previously.

In addition, the DVD brings the "Jamming Version" of the "One" music video that features only the band members playing the song, with the dispense of the "Johnny Got His Gun" scenes from that movie. Although this seems to be as a good video, the fact is that they cut 2+ minutes from the song and you have left an incomplete version of the song. It could have been a very good video if they wouldn't have cut that song.

Anyway, the video also features a "Theatrical Version" from the video of "The Unforgiven" and also, before the "One Jamming Version" video, it contains a brief interview with Lars talking about the creation of the "One" music video.

I have a few (live) DVD's:

Nightwish - From Wishes to Eternity
It's the very first Nightwish live show I've seen. Nice performance and quality.. well they always make good live shows!

Nightwish - End of an Era
The last one I bought. The title says it all: the last concert of the "Tarja" era. As always a great performance, great production and quality (image and audio). Comes with a documentary "A day before tomorrow" and photo gallery. Also with 2 cd's of the show. It's a must-have for Nightwish fans!

Epica - We Will Take You With Us
A studio recorded show with a small orchestra and choirs where everything is perfectly performed, from all the violins and the choirs voices, to every member of the band specially Simone's unique voice and charm!

Within Temptation - Mother Earth Tour
Live performances of the symphonic gothic metal band. For me it's a great DVD simply because it's the tour of one of my favorite albums of all time Mother Earth, back in the days when I was a WT fan.

Dream Theater - Metropolis 2000: Scenes from New York [remastered]
Unfortunately I didn't know it was the remastered edition, and they cut half of the show (it only contains the songs from Metropolis pt. 2 album). But it's not so bad because what I wanted was the "Metropolis" show, which is another one of the best albums I've ever heard.

Metallica - Metalica (Classic Albums)
Basically the making of the Black Album with interviews and recording footages.

Matallica - Some Kind of Monster
Movie documentary of the last years of the band (everyone know it).

Metallica - Live Shit: Binge and Purge
The best live DVD I proudly own! With classic live performances from San Diego - 1992, Seattle - 1989, and 3 audio cd's with the 3 nights long show at Mexico City in 1993!

Opeth - Lamentations
Great performance of Opeth in this live concert. The show is divided in 2 part: the first with Damnation album songs (and Harvest from Blackwater Park) showing the acoustic and progressive side of Opeth. And the second with more heavy songs like Deliverance, The Leper Affinity and The Drapery Falls (my personal fav). Both parts are damn well performed!
Extra features with the making of "Damnation" and "Deliverance" albums.

Lamb of God - Killadelphia
A kick ass live DVD from Lamb of God! Simple as that!

And soon I'm having these DVD's: Stream of Passion - Live in the Real World, Arch Enemy - Live Apocalypse, Children Of Bodom - Chaos Ridden Years - Stockholm Knockout Live, Kamelot - One Cold Winter's Night (very anxious about this one)

My collection of music DVDs contains:

Behemoth - Crush Fukk Create
This release contains live material, music videos, backstage footage and documentary where Nergal talks about the history of the band.

Sentenced - Buried Alive
The whole last gig they ever played. I bought the limited edition where I also got the whole consert on two audio CDs. The DVD also contains on the road and backstage footage, where the band is drunk most of the time. All their music videos they made, full discography, interviews and a photogallery.

Rammstein - Lichtspielhaus
All their videos up to the Mutter album, making of and live clips.

Rammstein - Völkerball
My favourite music DVD together with Sentenced´s Buried Alive. On this release you get the whole consert recorded in Nimes, France last year. A great show with a great performance by the band. Pluss live clips from England, Japan and 5 min special from Russia. On the second DVD there are a documentary and a making of the album Reise, Reise.

Nightwish - End Of Innocence
This is also a kind of documentary where Tuomas Holopaien talks about the history about theh band together with the drummer Jukka and ex-vocalist from Finntroll Wilska. During the Documenary you see a lot of backstage footage from the places the band have been. The extras incudes music videos, a shitty interview from Brazil, live material and a photo gallery.

I also have some DVDs which comes in compilations and stuff:

Katatonia - Live in Krakow, Poland (The Black Sessions)
Dimmu Borgir - Ozzfest performance (Stormblåst re-release)
Moonsorrow - 5 songs from Tuska 2003 and two music videos (Suden Uni re-release)

I bought these ones some months ago:

1) Amon Amarth - Wrath of the Norsemen

I was lucky enough to find this DVD available again in the store I first saw it before it got out of stock. The DVD is packed with three fucking DVDs, full of stuff that makes the money spent worth every penny. I am still stuck with the first DVD and the performance of the "In Pursuit of Vikings" song where some guys enter the stage hitting their shields with their swords to the guitar riff of the song.

2) Children of Bodom - Chaos Ridden Years - Stockholm Knockout Live

I bought this DVD after downloading some performances out of it. The set-list includes songs of recent albums what may be a downside for some but for me the new outputs of the bands are acceptable. There is always some bitching to do in regards to some songs we would like to have played in the set-list but oh well, that happens with every DVD I own. Alexi throws some Judas Priest shit on a lead medley around somewhere, I can't remember right now exactly since I saw this DVD for the last time long ago. The quality is pretty good.

3) Cannibal Corpse - Live Cannibalism

I almost had the whole performance "severed" in my computer. It has a killer set-list with very good camera changes, although the volume is kind of low.

4) Metallica - Cliff 'Em All

This DVD is a compilation of Metallica's stuff of pre-...And Justice for All album. Featuring the passed bass-god Cliff with a few of his bass solos. The sound quality is not the best, ranging from bad to worse, what is understandable since the majority of the footage is bootlegged. Nevertheless, this DVD is gold, for it exposes part of the Metallica climax and a parted god in action.

I buy dvds. Why, because I can play them in my vehicle and home system, whether of not i watch the video. The sound qulity is better then cd and you get more music for your money. One i can recommend is the crown unholy terror with bonus dvd which show a gig they play in this little german dive bar. It shows you how hard a metal band has to work. they barley have enough room to turn around but deliver the goods in immaculate fashion.
