so i have chosen to do a slection of metal songs that have to do with wars, or things related to wars
so it would be good to get a list of songs of this type
my list so far:
metallica-disposable heroes
black sabbath-war pigs
Kalmah-heroes to us
machine head-farewell to arms
arch enemy-silent wars
so any more would be appreciated

if you want some war songs, go listen to any random song from Bolt Thrower. I haven't heard any song yet that isn't about war.

METALLICA Album:Kill 'Em All 1983 Song:No Remorse The subject matter: The song "No Remorse" was Metallica's first anti-war song. It is about people who go off to war just for the sake of killing, guiltless and numb to the pain of their victims. METALLICA Album:Ride The Lightning 1984 Song:For Whome The Bell Tolls The subject matter: The song "For Whom The Bell Tolls" is about a scene of the Ernest Hemmingway novel where - one morning - five soldiers were taking a position on a hill and they get killed by an airstrike. The inspiration: The lyrics of the song "For Whom The Bell Tolls" are based on the same titled Ernest Hemmingway novel, "For Whom The Bell Tolls" which is about an American who is given the job of taking out a bridge held by the Fasist army in the Spanish Civil War - the precurser to the World War II. He fell in love and then found out very disturbing things about life and death. METALLICA Album:Master of Puppets 1986 Song:Disposable Heroes The subject matter: The song is pointing out that war is glorified, but in the reality it is the simple hell - where aren't any winners. METALLICA Album:...And Justice For All 1988 Song:ONE The subject matter: James' reason for writing the lyrics was the thought of beeing cut off from the outside world just like the main character of Dalton Trumbo's book/movie "Johnny Got His Gun". METALLICA Album:Black 1991 Song:Dont Tread On Me "Liberty or Death": In 1776, when the Americans signed the Declaration of Independence and officially declared war on England, Patrick Henry's words were "give me liberty, or give me death" which can be found in the lyrics as "liberty or death". Interpretation possibility #1 (assumed): The song "Don't Tread On Me" could be a very patriotic song, because it is connected with America's "War of Independence". Interpretation possibility #2 (assumed): On the other hand it can be interpretated in the exact opposite way. In that aspect it could be a condemnation of blind patriotism. The Americans started out as the revolutionaries who just wanted to fight for their freedom and their country. Today they are supposed to be "The World's Police" who have to fight in almost every war all over the world. Probably the lyrics are close connected with the Gulf War I, because the song has been written around that time. METALLICA Album:Garage Inc. 1999 Song:Killing Time u can find more information at: http://www.encycmet.com/songs/songs.shtml

System of a Down - War? It talks mainly about the causes of war, and how for stupid reasons i.e religious, wars are born. The question mark obviously implies that a war fought for religious purposes when in fact religions forbid war is pointless since it transgresses the belief that they are fighting in the name of. The lyrics are pretty much genius, and this is my favorite SOAD song, no contest.
---- Laugh and the world laughs with you. Weep and you weep alone.

And it was indeed about the legend of King Arthur and the knights of the round table. I didnt include it in my list as it's not about war, and is entirely ficitional. lol
