Been following his updates on this very closely, the first single is tbh not at all what I expected from his description. It'll be interesting to see what this turns out to be.

That first single does not sound like the kind of thing I want Devy to do, but hey, I'll give it a chance.

First single is almost kinda buttrock-y sounding, but with all the Devin Townsend trademarks. It's an interesting sounds that I honestly enjoy. Looking forward to this like I would anything else he's done.

Ruby Quaker has reminded me of his Rammin' The Steins remix. Even though the underlying emotion is completely different.

It's a good album. It's also born from and in a personal struggle. So the focus here is not so much on the music as it is on an opportunity to "let it all out", and channel all the past and ongoing crap into something good. And I think he did it. The quality is amazing. It is pleasant to listen to. It does have intricate parts. To be honest, from everything he has released in the past decade, I only could get into his ambient work, but this one is very good, enjoyable, and even - yes - relatable. I like it.

It may not be the most musically intricate, but god damn Devy knows how to put a smile on my face.

Glorious. This album is more instantly likeable than Lightwork was, I found myself grinning all the way through multiple songs. On first listen, I absolutely loved every single song here. Devin himself really didnt do this album justice in his pre-production descriptions though, I initially thought this wouldn't gel with me. "Goodbye" probably excited me the most, even though it ended a bit abruptly. I feel like that won't bother me much on repeated listens though. A nice blend of quirky, rock'n'roll Dev with more melodic and emotional material.

Edit: At this point I feel like it's impossible for this man to release a meh album. Almost every metal album since Deconstruction has been fantastic.

Just yes. So much to love about this one from the writing to the mastering to the riffage to the feelings. Another sparkling gem in his career

Ever since Empath, Devin has not even been trying to make a good album at all. He gave up the ethereal-like sound that permeated most of his solo album and heavily commercialized his songs. This is Disney-type metal of the cringiest type. Some of the songs sound as if a glam act recorded them. Accelerated Devolution.

Devin has not even been trying to make a good album at all.

Correct. The madman doesn't even need to try to make an amazing album.

Is Ruby Quaker the Ziltoidian national anthem?
And Glacier sounds alot like one of the tracks from Sky Blue. One of the end tracks, I think it was.

This is certainly not a metal album but surely a good hard rock album.

Its weird, I like it kinda as much as Lightwork, however, I feel little incentive to return to Lightwork, while this just feels more engaging for re-listening. Anyway, really fun to listen to.
