A really interesting question, IMO.
Everyone in MS like metal but I'd like to know the reasons.

Personally, I like metal because:
*Metal is a really creative music, because you find lots of different styles, from melodic metal, combinated with classical, epic, medieval music to extreme metal.
*I feel represented with metal, due to the variety of genres, I feel represented specially with melodic
*Many metal bands are full of culture
*In metal you find true musicians that don't do that music that you hear for some months and then it's completly forgotten
*Many musicians and metalheads are really interesting people and thanks to metal, now I feel that I have really good friends

These are the reasons I remember now, what I can affirm is that since I listen to metal, I'm a very different person, and I find many things of myself thanks to it .

So, what about you?

Hail Lusitânia
my reasons are pretty much urs: melody, creativity, speed, not-"death songs" (played like if they're dying on the instruments...), epic lyrics, and cos i like to be different, maybe if anyone would listen to metal, i would listen Eminem, and my life would suck...

Startigical quastion really ..

where is the stratigy I dunno .. no one ask

Well, as the bands are playing from their own talent, from their lyrics, from their songwriting, so that you just feel it's played by them from the heart, not buying a melody & a lyric to make a song ..

Mostly, a metal band issue a cd with mostly have great tracks, while in many other gendres they only have one good song, maximumly two, and the rest is overall a rubish.

The sound mix at all is

Isolated by the silent thoughts...
Her gazing was intense but so dead...

The teardrops corroded the soil.. She couldn't say a word to me...

i like the overall mixture from all different instruments (guitars, bass, keyboards when available). Vocals are kinda of "background" thing to me, and i dont really care about the lyrics.

I like speedy songs, with really great riffs n solos n stuff, but basically i will like anything that makes me f'ing headbang my brains out \m/ regardless of genre.

Hey, another one like me, haha, I thought I was the only one. The only thing I care about the lyrics are the themes, which I see in MA, the lyrics theirselves aren't so important for me

I love metal for the emotions and the effort that is put into the music, and the whole lengths artists/muscians go through to create the music/song/album.
At the end of the day metal is music you can see and hear the effort put into it.

I love metal because....
It gives me positive emotions! Well, if we can count in killing and hate
Metal inspires me to do or not do to something, for example, to create a work of art and so on.
Of course, it makes me feel better when I feel lost and depressed.
My uncle after listening to Dying Fetus asked me if I haven't will to go out in the streets and kill somebody when I have listened to this kind of music Yeah, sometimes it's true.
I'm aggressive so I like the load of aggression that death metal is giving me. Yeah.

This is a question that I could write a book about. I would say its the Musicianship, the attitude (think Judas Priest and you will get what I mean) The Passion, THE FUCKING GUITARS, and that rush you get at a concert when the band first comes onstage or even when you watch a dvd (Rock In Rio anyone?) It is the empowerment you feel when you listen to your favorite bands, and the (yes this is cheesy on the level of MANOWAR) kinship shared between metalheads.

i love metal because of the empowerment of some songs, just to sing along the mighty choruses, chants, melodies (what would manowar's "metal daze", "warriors of the world united"(probably the first true metal song i heard, and i instantly fell in love with it) or "heart of steel" be without those gigantic choruses? and the same thing applies to the riffs, imagine iced earth's "pure evil" without that majestic intro and the absolutely monstrous subsequent riff)
i love metal also because i can relate to songs, understand the core meaning, the message(like demons and wizards-fiddler on the green, or megadeth's foreclosure of a dream) a thing which is hard to do(not because it's too deep, but the other way around) with most of today's pop music(most of it is "blah blah love me kiss me hug me fuck me" anyway)

Hmm, at first I started listening to Metal in earnest purely because of Blind Guardian's Tolkien-inspired lyrics. I was (and still am) a huge Tolkien nerd, and into general history, mythology, battles and the like, and once I found a style of music that could take me away into those worlds like reading about them did, I was hooked. I didn't like the vocals much, so they were a bit of an acquired taste, but the musicianship gradually impressed itself upon me, and since I played drums in the past, the speed and ferocity really captivated me, and being a violinist, the guitars also interested me, more for the technicality of some stuff. Only afterwards did the whole attitude come into it, and the whole aggression thing.

These days, I listen because there's a genre, and sometimes even a band, to suit my every situation, thus I love the diversity. It makes me feel awesome too, not sure why. It's hard to pinpoint the reasons why I really love Metal today, all I know is that whatever it is, I'm glad it does what it does!

The musicianship, lyrics, range in vocals, energy, emotional part of it, and me connecting with the music (something that never happened before, until I started listening to Metal). Yeah, that's pretty much why Metal is my favorite genre of music.

Metal is original... And thats what gets me
People can to express themselves with music without being stuck to one style. There are so many kinds of metal, that basically anyone who give a chance will like. Unfortunaly people have created a stereotypical idea about the term "Metal," however they never heard about bands like Haggard, Angra, Pain of Salvation, Diablo Swing Orchestra, and many more who create beatiful music and yet are called "metal"

The lyrics are just amazing, it looks like that anytheme will fit with the music you can talk about whatever the hell you want to, and still make good music, like dragons (Rhapsody) philosophy (Pain of Salvation) life (Angra) Satan (King and Mercyful Fate) Viking (Ammon Amarth) Death (Moonspell) History (Maiden and Haggard) etc...

The combination of different kinds of music is also really good, specially classical + heavy metal which creates a great combination, but also Jazz and Blues+ Metal can create some thing different, and some bands go to more extremes like Pain of Salvation who combined Disco with Metal and createad some thing really catchy and yet funny =D

The emotion which vocalists put in their music is just amazing from Power Metal to Black Metal you can see that they all will sing with emotion

And ofcourse musicians acctually need TALENT to play unlike many many other kinds of music out there

For many reasons ... my reply might be long, but here we go

1- I listen to every kind of music you could ever imagain .. from Classic - Jazz .... Black Metal, you can't deny that there are some nice music pieces made by some genuises such as "TuPac, DJ Tiesto, Mozart, B.B. King ...etc (*) " but i would say that Metal suites me the most because when i listen to metal i find my lost soul in it, i find the answer to all my questions, i find what am looking for.
Some bands like "MoonSpell" they are just awesome, their lyrics is like you are reading a poem, there are feelings between the lines, there are facts ... some real things we go through every single day.

2- I would sort the music in this way:
  • Metal/Rock - Some descent tones, such a nice lyrics that talks about our daily life
  • Rap/Hip Hop/ R n' B - Some fast tones and a bunch of useless words [even though you can't deny that there are some real good stuff there]
  • Pop/Love/Romance - Well those music are cool for those love birds .. not me because my girl friend is a metal head
  • Classic/Jazz/Oldies - They are the source of everything we listen to nowadays

After i sort it in that way i would say what really fits in my head from all that above is Metal, i don't wanna listen to "Get Down, Get Down Till the Wet Drop From Your Balls" and i don't wanna listen to "Show Me The Meaning of Being Lonely" .. what i'm looking for is that tone that keeps me into it, a tone with passion, a tone with a story behind, a tone made for serious aim.

3- The last reason maybe because my Brother and my Mother were Rock-Heads and my brother had a band in my home town but now he is way far from that, so i believe they were a reason somehow that dragged me into this music.

*: I pointed to this sentence because i wanna say something, you as a metal head might hate Tupac for example, maybe not all, but the most .. well folks i know that TuPac was a rap head, but trust me, take only 5 mins and go through his lyrics ... this guy is a genuis, he is talking about the pain, the suffer the shit they are taking everyday. Maybe yes he was a gangesta, but his lyrics are so touchy, i don't care where did he come from or what is he sing like, what i care that he is talking about serious problem we are facing every single day.

Sorry for making my reply long, but i had to! ..
Rock on

Why i like metal:

Metal is just so awesome! I mean, it conducts electricity, it has a high melting point, when it comes to making swords, it's just so much better than plastic...

Why i like metal(music);

Because of double bass drumming, palm-muted guitar riffs synchronised with double-bass drumming, excellent guitar solos, hot singers(Angela, Cristina, i love you), artists don't really care about money (well some anyway), listening to a genre of music not many people listen to (makes me feel special ) and just the music in general - i feel it's very complex and it has everything i look for in a song.

I love metal so much because to me it's the best feeling in the world. The feeling I get from metal I can't get from anything else. I get nervous and excited..it's an amazing rush. I've felt that same feeling from it ever since the first time I heard it. It makes me feel safe, alive, and like everything I want to achieve can be reached. It's such a down to earth genre of music..I don't really know what else to say.
