My vote goes for Charon, but I must admit that I like Sentenced and To die for very much as well.

My vote went to To/Die/For.
I'm not to familiar with this genre, but I loved their cover version of Cutting Crew's "I Just Died In Your Arms."

Don't remember my vote but it should've been Sentenced, with no hesitation....Great lyrics combined with Ville's vocals....
But why the heck Poisonblack hasn't got any votes yet?! At first i got into 'em looking for a second Sentenced and was pretty dissapointed to be honest, thus when i judged with a neutral mind, found the albums quite good.

Yea, I'm wondering that too...well it's true that they their music isn't on so high level as Sentenced's is. However,somehow I have the feelling that these three albums that they have released are quite good (my favourite one would be Lust Stained Despair album).

About this poll, I voted for Sentenced (I especially like the albums after a death metal era). Guitars sounds great, Laihalla's vocal barely dissapoints you. Lyrics are also pretty cool...everything suits just great together in one piece. Well, I also have to mantioned that Charon is one of my favourites one out of these.

Sentenced, too bad they disbanded

I really am not a fan of this genre to be honest, I dont mind individual bands at times, but it seems far too image based and the music tends to be quite shallow.
In saying that, there are always exceptions, Sentenced were one. Shame they disbanded as @metalbound7 said, they were a good band.

Good god i just wish the singer of HIM would get that sex change operation and be done with it.

What? "Suomi metal"? That's a genre I have never heard of. What defines a band as "suomi metal"?

I was quite perplexed when I noticed "suomi metal" as a sub-genre on this site, for I have never previously heard that term used. Even more perplexing to me is that HIM, a Finnish rock band, is on this site.

Anyway, what is "suomi metal"? Is it a sub-genre of "Gothic metal" that focuses more on love, relationships, and a lighter, alternative rock sound?

It's a MetalStorm innovation to describe exactly the kind of bands listed in this poll. I think it's quite silly and embarassing, but I can see the reason for wanting a label for the distinct style of metal/rock these bands play. It has very little to do with gothic music, metal or otherwise. (Well, To/Die/For sounds a bit gothic, but Sentenced for example has nothing to do with the style.) Somebody called it "dark metal" but I think some mid-paced blackish bands are also called that (not that it isn't a silly tag, too).

Music styles (or genres, if you prefer, but that's slightly inaccurate) aren't defined. The demarcation happens through paradigmatic examples and family resemblance, and you should get the right idea about what MS means with "Suomi Metal" by looking at these bands. We don't need to list the necessary and sufficent conditions that define a genre, and that's usually quite impossible.

There's very little strange about HIM being featured on MetalStorm. Style borders are flexible (and imaginary, anyway), and it's perfectly appropriate to feature bands that exist in the twilight zone between worlds if they have fans in the community.

Sentenced has the most substance and they are superior to all these bands. They "godfathered" the sound, but it's not just love-ish mumbo-jumbo in their music. It's real Finnish spirit, at least the way I see it. Otherwise, I'd vote for Charon, they have a lot of nice guitar work and some dark, sexual energy to them... they just feel more masculine than the others.

For My Pain's only album is pretty much a textbook example of the average band in the genre, it's of nice quality but I can't listen to it a lot due to it being waaaaaaay too soft. Even for me. Entwine's case is pretty similar, To/Die/For and HIM never appealed to me, Poisonblack drifted a bit away from the genre and I never listened to Lullacry a lot.

Out of the bands not in the poll, Reflexion is pretty much shit, Embraze had a catchy album back in 2006 and For Selena And Sin is pretty forgettable, but I guess they would appeal to a certain demographic.

My vote goes to Sentenced, I just love their music, it has a special place in my heart.

I miss sentence the new band poisonblack is ok just not as good or as dark:(

Nooo! I loved For My Pain. It was so sad to find out they wouldn't release anything else ever, even though I think they never officially "disbanded". I still love "Fallen" though. Probably the only suomi band I enjoyed back when and I used to listen to Lullacry a lot too, but it was weaker.

Yo, what about Amorphis from Tuonela/AM Universum/Far From The Sun?

Sentenced. They made both killer death metal and gothic stuff, no bad albums despite changing their style constantly. Amorphis is close second.
