/agree. The maiden version destroys all the other versions for sure, that said Iced Earth did a wicked version of it too and deserves mention.

I really liked Iced Earth's version especially the vocals,
but maiden takes this one obviously.

Stupid poll... Of course Maiden will win, covers rarely are better than the original track. But I voted for CoF because they made a billion shitty covers and Shallow Be My Grave is one of the few good ones. The lyrics fit so well with Symphonic Black/Goth atmosphere.

Ha ha ha aha ha, no one can touch the original. The Dream Theater and Iced Earth versions are ok, but the other covers suck, especially the cradle of filth version. The original is perfect in every way. It is one of my all time favorites.

Has to be Iron Maiden, Iced Earth's cover was excellent though. I haven't been about to hit up the DT version, which I now need to do. CoF's was...meh. Didn't really like much that came from them asides from the Nymphetamin album.

I had to pick Iron Maiden. Not only were they the original artist of the song, but their version almost brought me to tears the first time I heard it. I was that amazing to me.

I'm going with the original by Iron Maiden as the best version of "Hallowed Be Thy Name." Iced Earth gives it an energetic twist, as does Machine Head's version. Cradle Of Filth also did a decent cover, giving it an eerie, ominous ambience.

A truly epic song.

This isn't really much of a poll. Plus, you didn't even include the Machine Head cover.

You forgot to put on the poll Machine Head,I think they did great cover of this song if not one of the best covers i've heard.

The poll was created before MH lamed it up.

For me 99% percent of the time covers can only ever be a tribute to the opriginal. I like the IE version of it, but as with most songs the original always has a certain charm and magic about it.

Lol obviously I prefer Iron Maiden's version, but the best cover beside the original version
IMO again, would be the one made by Cradle Of Filth
Its very doomish and evil Sounds good

Perhaps you should look into things before you make such absurd assertions. CoF's abomination is on Tribute to the Beast.

Agreed... That version was terrible, if not the worst I've ever heard. Cradle of Filth sucks bad enough as is, but the fact they destroyed and butchered a pre-existing epic such as 'Hallowed By Thy Name' really goes to show how talentless they are.

Well you obviously can't go wrong with the original. But I'd say Iced Earth did the best cover. Cradle's was... alright I suppose.

Well, I really love Maiden's, but Solitude Aeturnus's is just musical perfection. That being said I often like cover's more then the original's. The intro on Solitude Aeturnus's is one of the best things I've ever heard.

Cradle of Filth adds that darkness to the song, which I love.
