of all the masterpieces within the metal genre, there are songs that would be perfect funeral songs. for me i would pick "Beyond the Realms of Death" by Judas Priest and Fagning by Windir are the two metal songs i would have played at my funeral. 1184 probably too. yeah, what about you guys? what would you want at your funeral?

EDIT: CHANGED MY MIND i want arntor played too.

Voice of the Soul by Death , Axiom of Akercocke or Raining of Blood by Slayer.

Three awesome songs...but has actually Axiom anything to do with a funeral (I mean, lyrics about death for example) or is it just that you like these songs?

I like all 3 songs very much.
Axiom doesn't have anything to do with a funeral , I just like it a lot and because of one part of the song :
"I believe that when I die I shall rot
and nothing of my ego shall survive"
It's pretty pessimistic , but what else can I expect from my funeral .

Thrash Til' Death - Destruction, or Electric Funeral - Black Sabbath, or Hallowed Be Thy Name - Maiden.

solid choices, all of them are completely appropriate.

The Philosopher
"The Answer Lies Within" by Dream Theater to remind my loved ones to face each day with both eyes open wide.
"Hallowed Be Thy Name" By Maiden, just because that song means so much to me.
"Holy Wars" By MegaDeth because of the messege that it holds and because it means so much to me.
"Casting Shade/Prelude to Destruction" By Shadows Fall so people can have some nice Acoustics to fall back on.
"When Silence Conquers" by Vomitory so that my brother and my friends can Mosh with my Casket!

I'd sure as hell not want stuff that just focuses on being intensely sorrowful. No funeral doom or depressive black metal. I'd never want to be mourned in such a way. Instead, what I want is for everyone who knew me to get together and get so fucking drunk they wouldn't even know that I died, and just remember the good times. There's no need to encourage the attendants to be sad. As such, I'd rather choose something that I feel some sort of personal connection to (a song that to me actually MEANS something). Examples of this would be:

Dissection - Where Dead Angels Lie
Burzum - Erblicket Die Toechter Des Firmanents
Hellhammer - Messiah
Iron Maiden - Murders In The Rue Morgue
Bathory - Foreverdark Woods

But then again, it really matters very little to me. I'm dead anyway...

That's an interesting point of view. Though, I don't think that would work...
Since it's a funeral I WOULD choose something to fit that special ocassion. Not that I want to make anyone sad, it's just that, well some people would be pretty happy on that day, so I can't make them sad even if I tried.
So, my choice goes to the good-old Nortt. Songs : Evig Hvile. Nattetale, Glemt, Graven. Graven is piano only, but it's spooky and depressive. Kicks ass.

If you haven't heard Gamma Ray before, try these tunes, then feel free to die:
Farewell (i'll keep this song for me)
Pray
The Silence
Heaven Or Hell
Afterlife

i just love to die when i listen to'em

there are some very good choices like:

Savatage - Believe
Rage - All this Time
Emperor - Thorns on my Grave
Hypocrisy - No Regrets
Manowar - the Crown and the Ring
Bathory - Hammerheart
Pain - Fade Away

now i'm listening to Heaven can wait (iron maiden), well that definitely doesen't work if you're in a death mode....

Let's see now, i guess the choices would be up to my close ones. In this situation, metal friends. I assume they will play something that i've always talked about, like Iron Maiden, Metallica, Motorhead and so on.

But if i had listed them before my death, i'd make something like this...

1. Graveworm - The day i die
2. Slayer - Disciple
3. Satyricon - KING
4. Tiamat - Cold seed
5. Within temptation - Memories

yeah, rather commercial ones i guess.
