The following thing happened here, in Romania the other weeks, and it evolved into a big thing. A family returned from a holiday, and cuz it was very hot outside, on their way home, they stopped at a lake. The head of the family grew up near that place. They got in the lake, to have a swim. A young man came, and started to shout, saying, the lake is private proprety. Then he left, and called his father. The guy came with a shotgun, and started to shout at the swimming family, firing his gun. The swimers freaked out, and got out of the water, heading for their car. They got in, but the armed guy aproached to the car, and from 2 feet, he shot the guy in the head. He was 29 years old, had children and died on 09.07.

My question is this: do we need guns? Shure, we must protect our teritory, but by killing someone? (and not from self defence) . I know that in the US the 2nd amendment sais, that 'A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.'. But the world changed a lot since 1791...

After reading that story, it is very sad an a human tragedy. That said i dont think a gun was the problem. The man in question was disturbed
to begin with. Why would a rwasonable man risk life in prison for a friggin lake.

People............. the world is full of stupid people and they will find a way to harm others. A gun is mearly a tool such as a hammer, axe etc!

Cor agree completely. The gun is just an instrument. People will use it for different way and for different purposes. Suppose there were no guns, if someone wants to kill another person he would do it with a knife or a sword like the old days. It might reduce the death rate a little bit but still people will be silly and find other more innovative ways of commiting murder.

You didn't rule out the explosives, such as the gunpowder used in the guns, though. People would easily resort to bombs and the like. Terrorists would still be rampant as a result. Ah well, we'll just have to let them cull the American population a little further, until they become sick of it

EDIT: I type like Toki speaks, man I love metalocalypse too much (added "s" here and there).

I doubt they will become sick of it. Murder can be quite enjoyable for some people I'm sure. As someone mentioned earlier, they might use crossbows as well. @Tyrion, hilarious.

Trouble is always right around the corner, and when we run into that trouble, we will have a steaming ball of lead ready to put between it's eyes.
realistically, even if we do not have guns we will fight, and the fight will get even nastier. Instead of having several gun wounds and deaths, which are painless if shot in a vital area, we will have more people dying slowly from a bludgeoning wound to the head, or a stab through the liver. Destroying guns will never help solve anything, humans are devious little creatures, who will use anything they can as a weapon
So guess what, today we ban guns, then stabb wounds are dramatically on the rise, we outlaw bladed objects, we have nothing to cut down wood with, we have nothing to eat with, we have nothing to cu anything with. and still deaths are not declining, you know why? Because humans will start to use rocks and sticks to kill eachother, then we return to the mezolithic era. And what are gonna outlaw then, rocks and trees?
I don understand what you are getting at though, but let's face it humans kill everything they come into contact with, nature, animals, eachother.

Killing someone with a gun is so fucking easy, that's almost like cheating... and plus, not anybody would stab someone to death, but clicking on a trigger is so easy.
I say fuck guns, except for hunting ... but this is impossible to put into reality.

That is the result for an easy purchase gun country. It makes no sense that a mad, insane mental mind fire a gun and kill everybody in his sight . Guns are always lethal and must be kept in a museum not carry them all around in the name of self defence .
We must be aware from normal people walking around not from a criminal person .

@lupas.

I only visit this thread to see how many people were talking about that thing that happened on the Uni.

I immediatly though to myself: i bet this will stir a riot about the gun-laws in america. I may not agree with them, but don't you guys think it is more important to look at the mental state of this person than at the gunlaws? because honestly, if I will try, I think I can get a gun in 3 weeks here in even in The Netherlands, where they are forbidden. Illegal market exists. Inevitably.

So simply forbidding guns is not going to help us further, imo.

To me, a gun is not really any different than a kitchen knife or a baseball bat. You can kill people easily with almost anything, why should guns get all the flak? For this reason, I think banning all guns is actually a case of limiting social liberties. There are people out there who collect guns simply because they like them. Would you ban stamps too?

As many people already mentioned, banning guns wouldn't prevent criminals from getting their hands on them. The balck market would just supply all the weapons. As it is, at least the country gets some money out of selling weapons, through taxes and whatnot. Also, since all legal guns and bullets have identification numbers, it is relatively easier to determine who committed a crime.

In the end, a gun is just a tool. If you wanna kill somebody you can do it in any number of ways. It is ridiculous to blame the tool when it is obviously the individual that uses it and should be held responsible. Banning guns seems to me to be a little like "baby-proofing" an apartment, except that we are dealing with adult people here and they have rights that shouldn't be ignored.

Without guns this world would be alot less interesting, and people would find alternate ways to kill just as many if not more people. I'd rather shoot someone from a trench than run at a phalanx with a sword and a shield.

I couldn't agree with you more.

I hate the world that America has created. The world where nothing is anybody's fault, out of fear of offending, or getting sued. This is creating a lot of messed up individuals. Instead of fixing their problems, we don't want them to feel "different" and do nothing to help them but tell them that they are fine.

I'm not saying we should lock people with problems up by any means, that's horrible. But we need to take action, and try to actually fix their problems. Slapping their wrists and sending them to a self help clinic is not doing anything. Most parents don't even send their kids to these things out of fear of singling them out, so they never learn from their mistakes.

The problem is alot of these mental problems have no cures, yes there is a way to help control them using pills, but there are 3 large problems with pills.

1) When someone takes pills for so long a time they develop a resistance to it, thus they would continually have to up the doses of the medicine, and the patient may not even be aware of th fact that the pills aren't working as well, but one day soon they will snap.

2) Pills ain't cheap, especially since they keep having to up the doses of the pills as people build up resistance to them. so every year the pills get more and more expensive

3) Pills will only work if the patient is willing to take them, however if they think they are fine (a common symptom) or they forget to take, or hell they may not even want to take them, the pills will have no effect. It may seem stupid that some people would not want to take their medicine, but alot of people with mental illness are that way. I have a buddy who used to take all sorts of pills to keep him normal, in the end his mother had to supervise him taking the medicine, and even then he consistently tried to trick her into thinking he took them.

The only reason why we'll ever need guns is to protect ourselves from others. Ie, non-humans, if they even exist... I do accept previous comments though... That human life is destructive in nature...

No matter which laws or methods we apply to stop violence, there will also be some present.

It is called the blame game. People need something to blame other than for themselves. We see this all the time, people do not take personal responsibility

For example, the shootings at V-Tech last month. Watching the news, who did the media blame? Music, television, Halo 2, movies, etc. Not once did anyone say it was the fault of the room mates. Come one, they lived with the guy for a while and never took the time to get to know him? Instead they treated him like shit. And I know college dorms have RA's, whose job is all about checking up on the students. Was an RA ever checking on him? Or were they "too busy" to be bothered with him?

Not exactly true. His room mates and several others tried to talk and communicate with him. He was just unresponsive to everyone. He never made eye contact with anyone. The guy was mentally ill.

Yes, but the basic point remains the same, most of the time people will look for almost anything or anyone to blame but themselves.

I accidentally voted yes.

This is a hard discussion. Without guns we would probably be like in the old Japan days, you go to wal-mart and you see everyone walking around with a sword lol.

While guns help tremendously in war, and public safety, theres not really any more titles of Heroes, you sometimes hear about an extrordinary man from back then, because they did stuff to be remembered by, to become a legend. Now a'days if you try to be a hero in war chances are youll be shot up lol. But yea this is something thats a very hard topic to discuss and find a solution. There wont be a solution.

Dany Crane from Boston legal said a funny thing about guns, he said that criminals have guns out there, so the solution is not less guns...it's more guns!
but what i think that it's true that people can kill also with other tools, but guns makes it easier for them, also, it's easy to ovoid a stab but it's impossible to avoid a gun shot.

I voted yes, because in my country the delinquency is very hard, look for El Salvador in any ONG database. But the point is that in my country you cant walk on the street, take your brand new PSP and walk like in Europe, NO IT WILL BE STOLEN, and you could get hurt. Its not OK although is fair to kill bad people, but also innocent people dies. I voted yes also because I want a gun.

I seems that nobody has noticed a great difference between guns and knives or something, the main diferecne is that the gun does NOT requiere great physical strenght, so, a kid can accidentally (or not) kill someone just by pulling a trigger, also a drunk person can do something like that, even you could be EXREMELY stupid and kill someone while cleaning your gun, even worse, that happened.

Latin american metalstormers won't let me lie when saying that things are very though here, but in europe, north america and asia I think that people is more peaceful.

did you noticed that guns'n'roses is shown in the similar topics

I'd have to say yes. The only thing banning guns will do is embolden criminals, who sure as hell aren't gonna turn their guns in. Look at Australia- they made guns all but completeely illegal, and crime has gone thru the roof in many areas as armed criminals are having a virtual turkey shoot on unarmed citizens. Let's face it, the cops can't be everywhere, and all too often, they can only get there in time to tag the bodies of crime victims and put the tape on the ground.

Instead of passing more gun laws, I say let's start enforcing the ones we already have.
