I was surprised how good I turned out. I really like that they're not trying to be black metal. just good heavy metal.

I agree, they are the best and most talented band so far this decennium. At least out of those "new" bands I've heard.

id say they were more than just heavy metal, there is definetly a BM sound to them

I'd say they were black-inspired heavy metal, or old-school black metal like Venom, not really black'n'roll. Enjoyable sound though.

this is new the sound of heavy metal. shure it's heavier and has a dark mood but that's all

Kiuas. Hard to believe, but they are origianl powe rmetal from Finland. They have speed, one heel of a drummer, great harsh and melodic vocals, great solos, and theyr "pagan" lyrics are killer.

i have to say Skinless, they are just awesoe, and amazing not to unique but brutal death metal that gets straight to the point. its amazing, i have their new album, please check it out its awesome.

I must say Epica would be one of my favorites post 2000, but there are others, 1349 have been fantastic (although im not sure if they are entirely post 2000), Wintersun (a very good band from scandanaiva)
I suppose in the last few years a few of the old bands have been making somewhat of a comeback with Metallica, Megadeth, Testament, Anthrax, Death Angel and Exodus all make rather spectacular comebacks.
As well as a few that have continued on with some good form Opeth, Immortal just to name a few.

Why has nobody mentioned Moonsorrow yet? (at least in this page, too lazy to check all )

I can't think of any superb band of the new millenium. Thats a bad sign.

My top three in different genres would be:

Adagio (Fr) - Progressive/Power
Mastodon - Stoner
Protest The Hero - Metalcore/Progressive

All of these bands seem to have made a pretty great contribution to Metal by their sounds.

Well off the top of my head I really like Agalloch...which im cheating a little...released in '99 but still pretty badass and original.

For me it's simple - maybe childlike...About what bands do you say "Nobody sounds like them" or "Man, they go their own sound". For this past decade I've been saying this about:

Mastodon
Riverside
Rosetta
Nine Inch Nails

Job For A Cowboy
DevilDriver
Suicide Silence
Be'lakor
Dethklok

I'd say Dethklok and Mastodon are the best since 2000

Right now I will say that A Forest Of Stars in the óne of the best bands at the moment.

Finally someone else who likes dethklok, i thought i was alone

Probably "Estradasphere" or "Diablo Swing Orchestra", havent heard too many jazz/metal/swing fusions in the past 10 years.

Mastodon are indeed one of the greatest bands in the 2000s

Mmmmm I believe that metal has been doing really good this past years, this are some bands I feel that they bring something new to the table:

!T.O.O.H.!: I know that the debut was from 1999, but their most well known albums are the second and the third album and those are increible. Such an amazing Grindcore.
Ahab: That debut was so crushing. The concept is so fresh too.
Alcest: Really nice music
Darkspace: Ambient Black Metal at it's best imo.
Diablo Swing Orchestra: Incredible ideas, really good stuff
Funeral Mist: Just their debut though... but damn, it is a masterpiece of Black Metal
Khanate: Horrible... Horrible drone [in a good way]
Mar De Grises: I really don't know why they are original, but they just don't sound like any other doom metal band, it's pure magic.
Pig Destroyer: ... Really well done grindcore, the vocals, the lyrics... they don't even han a bassist and they don't need one because they kick so much ass.
Shining: IV and V.... nuff said.

But Shining was founded before the year 2000 man.

I wrote here over three years ago and gave Wintersun my post. Today I would without doubt say Lifelover. One of the most original bands out there. Psychotic and insane music.
