I dont think I would like Nile all that much if it wasnt for their Egyptian styled themes I would think the were just another DM band, thats what makes them so special.

I want to agree with you, yet I want to disagree. As a band in general they are excellent. The DM aspect of them is really good, just a good DM band to begin with. But, the Egyptian parts really add to the music and make them unique.

Alot better way to put it.

Nile is an awesome DM band.
The Egyptian theme is a big part of the band, and the drumming is some of the best DM drumming around.

Great albums to start with....the same I started with actually. If possible, get their other two as well. They are amazing as well, I don't think you will be dissapointed.

I am pretty sure Kollias is legit. He's a fucking madman that's for sure. Anyway, why don't you like 'Amongst the Catacombs of Nephren-Ka?' I love that it pulls it's name from Lovecraft, not to mention the music is as raw as can get and Nile's trademark musicianship is still present.

Check out my review for Amongst the Catacombs of Nephren-Ka that just got put up.

My fave Nile album. The fact that it's rather short benefits it rather well, grabs you from the first riff and remains captivating to the very end. Other Nile albums are good as well, but my opinion is "Amongst.." is their most sucessful piece of work. S t i l l haven't heard "Annihilation..." yet but i hope to remedy that some day. Although the sample song off the album didn't impress me all that much.

I noticed something. Gorerotted's 'Nervous Giberring Wreck' from their latest album has this melodic riffing bit that sounds like something suited for Nile's music. It's really not Gorerotted at all but I think you Nile fans should check it out if you haven't already. I'm not saying that Gorerotted sound anything like Nile either usually, just that melodic riff bit.

Agreed. Although in all honesty, I think GR are more entertaining to watch live than Nile.

Haha, well I said watch rather than listen Nile just sort of stand around on stage, which is understandable because all the axemen are tied to vocal duties, although Joe Payne does some interesting headbanging! Gorerotted move around more and their vocalist is pretty wild. Musically, Nile are probably better (but maybe I'm just saying that because I perfer them lol) and they're far more professional than Gorerotted, even though at times the Egyptian ambiences were omitted.

I have only heard Into Their Darkened Shrines and Annihilation of the Wicked.

What is the next best cd for me to buy. I REALLY like the egyptian atmosphere of Into their Darkened Shrines, and was less impressed with Annihilation of the Wicked, although the production fucking ruled.

Seriously, I think Duck falls upon the temple... is one of my favorite nile songs...just because it's so fucking badass!

Also...lyrically, this band is at the TOP of it's game.

The Nile concert is my favorite concert of all time. I haven't been to many, but it easily stands above the rest. Standing right under Dallas Toler Wade, touching the tip of Karl Sander's spear guitar, singing along to "Sarcophagus", and shaking Karl's hand at the end of the show are just a few highlights of that night. Nile slays live. They were the epitome of the word awesome.
