Melodic death doom metal, I've been into this genre for a while now mainly because of Rapture who till now only released top notch albums, Songs for the Withering being a masterpiece. And Slumber's single album is also very solid. A new rare contributer to this genre is Black Sun Aeon. Other than those I didn't find any other band worthy of this genre qualification.

Thrash metal mostly... It just feels right at many parts of the day. Been listening the following bands prettymuch exclusively lately. Toxic Holocaust Destruction Infernal Majesty & In an out of order kind of way: Insomnium (Guttenberg/melodic death) and Dementor (Brutal Death) I guess it's just something in the pattern of the music that's just been hitting me the right way.

(does the post mean which started the genre in general or which band started your fandom of that particular genre?) I'll go with the latter, since thats probably what you all are going for... thrash metal - Metallica viking metal - Tyr black metal - Dimmu Borgir symphonic metal - Kamelot heavy metal - Ozzy Osbourne Motorhead - Motorhead

I'm getting more into Sludge Metal or rather Atmospheric Sludge thanks to Rosetta, Mouth of the Architect, Neurosis, Isis, and Latitudes. And also into Stoner Metal/Rock Queens of the Stone Age and Kyuss.

12.05.2010 - 15:17 Written by Mikyz on 10.05.2010 at 17:15 Damn man I entered the thread to post something about me getting into sludge the whole genre is new to me and I just started exploring it and I am liking lots of what I am hearing The band that made me start getting into Sludge is Corrupted it surely doesn't sound similar to the other Sludge bands because of the mix of Funeral Doom and Drone but it made me wonder what sludge is... now I am listening to Ghost Brigade's "Isolation Songs" and it is great

Cult Of Luna and Isis are NOT sludge, and neither are Neurosis really. Why do people keep on lumping those bands into the sludge bucket?

13.05.2010 - 11:25 Written by Marcel Hubregtse on 13.05.2010 at 07:16 I listened to some of the songs on Isis's myspace and they sounded more like Jesu to me I think those bands are linked due to their Hradcore influence as it is a common thing between them I am also getting into Avantgarde and starting with of course Arcturus which I find to be brilliant and now checking Isis and Tool "which I still find hard to digest"

I've been all over the place with listenings over the last 2 months but I'd have to say Doom metal... Solitude Aeturnus and Candlemass really were to blame for that, Ahab and Evoken are just keeping it going.

Hahahahhahahaha, YEah, like I was just "Checking out bands, minding my own business" then all of a sudden "POW" this stuff sorta works. I generally like stuff that's blaringly fast but the haunting feeling that doom captures works really damn well too. Not to mention some of the atmosphere that these bands pull off are just superb.

The band the got me listening to it was Ogre (USA). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2x1RUa4wzKs Sorry for not being clear before. After listening to Ogre's 'Plague of the Planet' (which I highly recommend) I've been on an Electric Wizard binge for about two weeks.

31.05.2010 - 17:31 Written by Numbskull on 31.05.2010 at 17:26 Finally got hold of it last week. And it is a great traditional doom album. Funny thing is that the cover says it has 11 sogns, but when you put it in the cd player it only has 1 song. Hahahaha I actually find Seven Hells even a bit stronger.
