A really interesting question, IMO.
Everyone in MS like metal but I'd like to know the reasons.

Personally, I like metal because:
*Metal is a really creative music, because you find lots of different styles, from melodic metal, combinated with classical, epic, medieval music to extreme metal.
*I feel represented with metal, due to the variety of genres, I feel represented specially with melodic
*Many metal bands are full of culture
*In metal you find true musicians that don't do that music that you hear for some months and then it's completly forgotten
*Many musicians and metalheads are really interesting people and thanks to metal, now I feel that I have really good friends

These are the reasons I remember now, what I can affirm is that since I listen to metal, I'm a very different person, and I find many things of myself thanks to it .

So, what about you?

Metal speaks of things that most other genres are fariad to speak of.. metal makes me feel its the real thing..

Life aint a a bed of flowers, and metal defines true human emotions... It talks of war, hate, death etc which are very true in our world... Musically its so energetic and pure i can totally live with it and not want anything else... Im borin in a country that cant ever understand Metal Culture, but being a true Metalhead i jus say " i dun fuckin care"

Mainly, metal is the vent for the dark side that lives inside everybody, though some don´t recognise that.
All the aggression and anger just floats away when listening to metal.
Metal makes me happy.
Metal gives me hope, just knowing that there are people out there that are like me is comforting.
The political side of it.
The dramatic side of it.
The brother/sisterhood.
The freedom.

Cause it is the most intelligent form of music there is, and has a lot of substance behind it unlike all other types of music

Yeah pretty much...

And I just like it because I do. Not really an answer but it just feels right and sums me up. I dont ONLY listen to metal but it's the type of music I struggle the most to be without.

I disagree with James. There are a lot of other genres in music that have that characteristic.

IMO metal is more powerful, it can be heavy and smoth at the same time, make your anger go away, make your tears fall or just make you jump all over the place. Not many genres can make you feel that way.

That's why I like metal, 'cause it brings out all my hidden emotions

Uh not right...

Not all Metal bands are more intelligent than all other types of musics.. For example I see no intelligence in Metallica and on the other hand I see a lot of intelligence in band like Depeche Mode {In my opinion}.. That was an example, which you can find such examples many!

Please! I said "I" see no intelligence in Metallica, maybe they have intelligences and they are hidden to me, unfortunately. So I just can say my own opinion and not others'.

Metal puts me in a calming mood. Not saying other genres suck, but if I am in need of chilling/R&R, I'm most likely to pop it Metal than anything else.

I love metal. I breathe metal. I see metal. I hear metal. I get along only with people that are into metal (not in purpose). I feel metal. I dream metal. Every aspect of my life in connected to metal. I don't know, it's unexplainable. I just love it. It's the biggest part of me.
It makes me feel emotions like nothing else does.

In my entire life, I have not found anything in the world more powerful than metal. There is nothing that can compare to the immense power in the music that we call metal, for to me, it is akin to the power of gods. Metal, to me, can nearly be described as my religion, with a bible compromized of CDs, tapes and LPs instead of books. I have yet to feel the presence of any power that compares to that of metal in any way. Therefore, I decided to pretty much dedicate my life to it. If I was to remove metal from my life, I am unsure how much of me would even remain. Metal is the biggest part of my life, and pretty much everything I do has some connection to metal in one shape or another.

Just play some Morbid Angel (particularly Altars Of Madness) and lose yourself in the power radiating from the riffs, and feel that power climax when the solos come in. Then you'll know what I mean.

I like metal cause first time i listened to it, I was fanatsy-addicted, and I thought that metal was the most beautiful way to express the feelings i felt and read in Tolkien, Terry Brooks, George Martin, etc. Besides, i also liked the power of the sound. Many other friends of mine thought the same things, and soon a lot of people in my town gathered in home-made concert, everyone wanting to play and to listen to metal. I met a lot of people just cause we liked metal.
Metal is brotherhood. It's a language that everyone in the world can understand.

Metal - as a genre has always gone far beyond many other common genres out there. There isn't any one ideology or topic that a metal band or artist won't handle. While radio, television and media in general spews out "artists" that more or less sing about the same stuff over again and in a very generic fashion, in metal - a wide range of ideas are conveyed. It's also a diverse genre as it can incorporate different elements and sometimes borrowing from other genres to create a colourful and interesting musical spectrum.

It's also a musical genre that isn't mostly made of artists and bands that are popular because they were promoted but because they worked hard to get to where they are. It's just unfortunate that there's so much crap out there being promoted while relatively unknown metal bands that have talent and work hard remain relatively unknown.

I could offer up a very complex five page response but no body would ever read it. So in simplest terms:
- Metal has more substance than other forms of music, most other music seem somehow more shallow
- More variation than other forms off music
- Is more catchy than any other form of music (at least for me)
- The world best musicians tend to but playing metal

I think metal has a very wide range of appeal. Fans of any other genre can probably find some metal they like. Imo this is due to its compatibility with other genres (Symphonic, industrial, crust, etc.). This is why it appeals to me; it never gets boring.
