Here's my post from this thread straight outta the old forums

For the poll I picked who I thought would be the more popular choices, I'm sure we'll get alot of "others" though.
Anyways, this was a hard one for me. Black Metal vocals are probably my favorite type of vocals in all it's different styles...but overall my favorite is probably Nocturno Culto. Absolutely countless vocalists have modeled themselves ater him and for good reason. He's the spokesboy of BM vocals and has a truly chilling sound to his voice. Attila was a close second for me, he has one hell of a creepy voice too. Varg as well. Who's yours??

Poll

I vote for Varg...

I really love his tortured vocals... especially on Filosofem... Nightmarish.

It was hard to decide between Ihsahn, and Other (Dead). I voted Ihsahn. Even though Promethius sucked, it was still a good display of vocal work.

My favourite bm vocalist is hands down Arioch from Funeral Mist. Not too big on his work on Maranatha, but on Salvation he managed to do the best vocals in bm I've ever heard in my life.

Ou of this list I would choose Abbath of course, but I also especially like the Rose Heidmarr's vocal (ex-Anorexia Nervosa). His growls are kinda mixed with screams and it's very good sounding.

MY vote must too Ihsahn for all the different styles he can do and for all the projects he has done. I think few could match him for versatility. Abbath certainly has his place, he is a fantastic showman.

I didn't want to over step the boundaries of this, so I avoided the ''other'' option. But out of this list of highly qualified Dudes, I would have to say Attila. Yes, the Attila, whom I laughed about the first time I heard him, that Attila. I mean, when I first heard DMDS, I thought, who's got your undies, Walter? But now... it's sick and he has definitely became a personal role-model...uh, vocally speaking.

After I heard Ordo Ad Chao...wow... just fucking shit, that fucking Quintana can roll, man.

Other...Had do go with Jon Nödtveidt. Just amazing haunting vocals on his albums. Maybe not so much on Reinkaos. Also would have to go with Protector and Silenius from Summoning.

Abbath (Immortal) - THE NUMBER 1 !

Varg is also cool, like the guy few posts before me said " I really love his tortured vocals. "

The Mayhem singers are also good, but im kinda over with Mayhem :/

Attila and Kvarforth probably. Both are ready to experiment with their voices and the results are brilliant in both cases. Monotonous screeching can get pretty boring in long run, although it doesn't mean that there ain't exceptions.
Also Neige deserves to be mentioned, especially because of his great performance on Mortifera's full-length.

Will have to be Dani Filth for me, I think he's the most technical one out there and has various tones.

In my opinion, Dani Filth is the greatest black metal vocalist. He has such a huge range, from blood curdling screechs to demonically low growls. The first time I heard Cradle, it was Dani who drew me in. He is also the most unique, imo.

Abbath's voice really stands out. There's a sort of darkness and evilness coming out of it that blows me away.

I think it's beautiful to be honest.
