After Dethroned & Uncrowned, yet another disappointment from a band I adore. Meh.

I dont know what you guys are talking about. Come on, this album is brilliant! Totally experimental, exactly the kind of music I've been expecting from The Gathering since Home. The last two is really pop-ish in my opinion. BTW, Dethroned & Uncrowned is also a brilliant album. Katatonia is daring enough to make that album, and it is not bland at all.

Don't know about you man, but (as for D&U) re-releasing the same album with just some acoustic guitars here and there and keeping the rest intact (especially the vocals) isn't exactly the definition of "daring", for me.

Speaking of The Gathering, Home was more pop-ish than Disclosure - and I really love both of them!
I re-listened to this one just today and things got *slightly* better (I mean, 6 ---> 6,5) but the overall impression remains the same: it's kinda patchy, I don't know how to explain it but I'm not convinced at all.

To each his own, I guess. And I agree that Home is much more accessible than their earlier albums, but I could tolerate that because Anneke was still in charge of the vocal part then =)) However, I won't even call Home "pop-ish". They blended the experimental attribute with the melodies in a more sophisticated and seamless way than in The West Pole and Disclosure, IMO. I feel that they tried too hard to sound themselves in the last two, which is certainly not bad, but...

And for Dethroned & Uncrowned... yeah how they remade it is quite cheesy I must admit. Yet after I decided to give it another spin, I was like "Hey, these guys have a point." It's not an album to impress for sure, but one to experiment and explore new realms of music. And I give them credit for that.

I enjoyed it a lot. Disclosure was better indeed, but this one has got some interesting songs as well.

If I'd vote with lowest rates, this would get 2 or maybe even 1.

then it seems that the album is a real failure.

Well, some people might like it, but to me just some random mix of silence/noise/nature is more interesting than this.

I know what you mean.

I love this band, I loved the new version of the band that recorded Disclosure, an amazing album.
But this last release is useless and pretty pointless.
It should have been a bonus disc of the previous one, something like a limited edition feature.
There is no costistency here, the album slides away and the forty-odd minutes pass away without leaving any true impression.
Sorry, this is the first time I don't like a The Gathering album.
