Legendary Deep Purple and Rainbow guitarist, Ritchie Blackmore is well know to be a fan of mediaeval periods and folk music. His folk project, Blackmore's Night (the meeting of Ritchie Blackmore and Candice Night, his girlfriend) knows a real success, especially in Japan since 1997, and years after years they're releasing new "sweety" albums. Blackmore's Night is nothing Metal, but if you like sweet tender and emotive folk and if you're a bit bored by brutality, I really recommend you their new release "Winter Carol", a perfect album to pass winter and Christmas quietly at home.

This album pretty much does what it says on the tin: 12 songs of folk-tinged Christmas tunes to get you stuck into the festive season in a happy way. Of course, that's ALL it is. There isn't anything on here that will necessarily interest you in the band's best material, and for that reason, you would do well to check out the band's first few albums instead. Nonetheless, 'Winter carols' does its best not to ruin any of the folk tinged christmas tunes on here, and most of them work averagely too. At least you can listen to this instead of some of the more overrated songs you'll find on every music video channel in December.
