Additional info
This is the second concept album released by Sepultura, following 2006's Dante XXI which was based on Dante Alighieri's "The Divine Comedy".
A-Lex is based on the 1962 book "A Clockwork Orange" by Anthony Burgess, which in 1971 was adapted into a film version by Stanley Kubrick.

The title is a pun on the main character from the novel, Alex and the Latin meaning for "without law": al(away from) + lex(law); presumably, this is a reference to the main narrating character's behavior of the story. The album's lyrics are written through Alex's perspective.

We all know the deal: Max Cavalera leaves Sepultura, they hire Derrick Green as his replacement and so begins a new era for the band. However, this meant they now had this odd fusion of nu metal and semi-thrash with tribal, groove and punk elements, which ended up sounding rather poor. In 2006 they released Dante XXI and seemed like they somewhat learnt to use this style to make a decent album. Three years later, here it comes, A-Lex?

It's not a good album. IMO Sepultura without Max Cavalera is crap.

Its just one of the biggest let downs of 2009, Dante was far way better than this.

I have to agree with the previous two posters who really liked Dante XXI and were very disappointed with A-Lex. With Dante, I felt like Seps finally stepped out of the shadow of Max, and proved they could be a great band without him. A-Lex has some good moments, definitely. But it collapses under the weight of its own ambition, with many of the songs being totally forgettable filler. Definitely a step backwards, and now that Igor is gone as well, I fear the worst for Seps, which is a shame, cos I love them.

Care to prove me wrong

The idea of being able to "prove" if an album is better or worse than another is just laughable. Enjoyment of music is purely subjective. All I am saying is give it a go before dismissing it purely because one guy isn't there. It's a good album.
