By this I do not mean your favorite albums, what I wanna know is which albums are most important, dearest or means the most to you. It could be the album that got you into metal, the album that changed everything you thought you knew about music, the album someone you like gave to you and of course, it can also be your favorite album.

My list:

Metallica - Master of Puppets, Metallica, Load, ReLoad, S&M
MoP has been my favourite song ever since I first heard it when I was 12. That album changed my life and fully got me into Metal, it made me know that Metal is everything for me. The Black Album was a very early album for me, helped me got into the genre and was the second album I bought. The two follow-ups are maybe not the best albums ever but when my family went to Greece and drove around the country in a car my mom had a walkman and a tape with those two albums on, which she gave me. I listened to it and loved it and this was before I got into Metal. S&M was my first live album and I'm such a sucker for both Metallica live and orchestras.

Iron Maiden - Dance of Death, Brave New World, Rock in Rio, Somewhere in Time, Killers
DoD was the very first album I bought. BNW and RiR was the first Metal I liked, the first step to a Metalhead. SiT was one of my first albums and Killers... well, it's such a magical album which was there for me many times.

Children Of Bodom - First four studio albums
All their first four albums helped me become a Metalhead and appreciate more extreme metal. These albums are classics to me and this band means so much for me.

These three bands and their albums are listed first for many reasons. They remind me of a much easier and happier time in my life. But the main reason is because they were the only, and I mean ONLY Metal, I listened too for like 4 years! I thought it didn't exist any more good bands, seriously. But then this band came:

Norther - Dreams of Endless War
Since I heard that these guys would sound like CoB there was no doubt if I should get an album. So I bought DoEW and it changed everything. It made me realise that there exist more bands and so much better Metal out there!

I guess that Norther really helped me become the person I am today, or maybe the Metalhead I am today.
Now the list goes on without any special order.

Dream Theater Images and Words, Metropolis Pt 2: Scene from a Memory
These albums made me see that Metal has so much to offer. DT played music and made me feel in a way I didn't thought was possible.

Cradle Of Filth Damnation and a Day
Because this one made me get into Black Metal. (Don't cry all Black Metal fanboys, I know it's not a Black album... at all )

Nightwish Oceanborn, Wishmaster
Got me into female vocals.

Elfeder
Where Lovers Mourn - Draconian:
this is a really dark and emotionly strong album that makes me depressed even if I am happy, I really like the energies in there.
agalloch discography:
because I can also sleep with it and it is gloom cold and dark ambient that makes me imagine that I am wondering alone in a forest.
Ensiferum discography:
saga of battles > death > valhala > legends >good music

I'd say Dark Tranquillity - Skydancer / Of Chaos And Eternal Night, I'ts just one of those albums that can be kept in the stereo for months without getting stale. Just a classic album all round for mine.

The drums ROCK! The bass ROCKS! And the guitar - ohhh, the guitar ROCKS! Check it out! CHECK IT OUT! - Dick Knubbler.

Haddonfield
Chucky's Bride
Metallica - Ride the Lightning, simply my all time favorite album.

Korn - Life Is Peachy and Marilyn Manson's Antichrist Superstar, these are the two albums that really made me look at metal.

Cradle of Filth - Cruelty and the Beast, the album I've probably listened to the most in my life with Ride the Lightning, so many hour's spent chilling out on my bed with this album.

In Flames - Reroute to Remain and Soundtrack to Your Escape, listened to these loads as I was driving to Uni, they always remind me of the good old Uni years.

Ill Nino - Revolution Revolucion, I remember when I first got my driving license I only had a casette player in my car and I had just bought this album so copied it to casette and because I couldn't be arsed making many more cassettes this is one I listened to a lot, it always reminds of summer driving round the countryside with the windows wide open.

White Zombie - Astro Creep 2000, when my parents were divorcing this is an album I seemed to listen to a lot for an unknown reason. The Ramones and White Zombie seemed to help escape the bad vibes created by the separation. Funny though, I don't associate the album with bad thoughts today.

Shape of Despair - Angels of Distress
Other albums have come and gone with the seasons, or according to my emotions, but i can chuck this album on at any time and still have the same effect. This album is so deep and drenched with emotion, i don't think i could live without it.

The ones I'm naming below, I consider "special" albums but I'm sure I could name easily 50 more :/

Dissection - Storm of the Light's Bane

My favorite Black Metal album ever, if by some hazard I don't know what I'm in the mood for that's what I instantly listen to.

System of a Down - Toxicity

This is what got me into metal, and I'm pretty sure it has the highest play count on my itunes.

Dream Theater - Images and Words

One of my first experiences with metal, and I still think that this band is perfect in all the ways imaginable, flawless + Petrucci fanboy.

Edge of Sanity - Crimson

The Ultimate progressive death metal album, Opeth can go to hell >:( It also got me into Death Metal.

In Flames - The Jester Race

My first Melodic Death Metal or Gothenburg experience, and it remains one of my favorite, if not my favorite Gothenburg Metal release. An unforgettable and powerful release.

Burzum - Filosofem

I listen to this practically whenever I'm pissed off. It's also one of those albums that never get old. The most entrancing album ever.

Deep Purple - Machine Head

My father introduced me to them, and it's the first groundbreaking band I saw live and this album is my favorite one.

With Oden on our Side - Amon Amarth: This is the first extreme metal band I ever listened to. I will always love this album, and this band for getting me into metal.

Hatebreeder - Children of Bodom: If you asked me now what I thought of CoB. I would tell you I thought they sucked. But hatebreeder is one of those early albums that makes you wonder where the band went wrong. Maybe it was all those covers of pop songs? Or maybe it's just time telling the band that they need to stop. But whatever the case is, this album will always be a favorite of mine.

Legacy of Kings - Hammerfall: Hammerfall wasn't the first power metal band I listened to. But it was the first one I fell in love with. And this album cemented that feeling with all the cheesy, epic songs on it.

Where Dreams Turn to Dust (Ep) - Forest of Shadows: Nothing matches up to the depressing majesty that is Forest of shadows. This ep is probably the best release by FoS. When ever I get depressed, I listen to the entire ep. It's simply a Doom Metal Masterpiece.

Land - Tyr: Folk Metal at it's finest. Tyr is one of the few non-extreme viking themed metal bands out there. The uniqueness of this album is what will always make me remember it.

The Storm of the Light's Bane: Dissection: Do I really need to say anything about this? If you haven't listened to it. Go do it! You have no idea what you are missing!

Couldn't just pick one band and one album.
Motley Crue- Girls Girls Girls for showing me that there was better music out there other than the AWFUL pop music that was flying about in the 80's.
Iron Maiden - Number of the Beast for setting me on my way to a life of METAAAAAAAALLL!!!!!!
Metallica - Jump in the Fire single for introducing me to thrash metal.
Napalm Death - From Enslavement....../Carcass - Symphonies of Sickness - For introducing me to grind.
Obituary - Slowly we Rot for my death metal obsession.
Cradle of Filth - Principle of Evil.... for my journey to the darkside with black metal
My Dying Bride - Turn Loose the Swans for the misery
Hammerfall - Glory to the Brave for the cheeeeeeese and reminding me not to take it all so seriously.
Other important notable mentions, Anthrax, Slayer, Kreator, Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, Iced Earth, Immortal, Emperor, Darkthrone, Heloween, Gamma ray, Blind Guardian, WASP. These bands have never let me down (apart from Morbid.... ) and have been the corner stone of my listening for the last 20 something years.

Well, I cannot choose only one so (and I could make a list from it) here it goes
Aerosmith - Just Push Play ... ok, ok, one of their worst albuns maybe, but it made me wake up for rock, back in 2001, when I saw the videoclip of Fly away from here on Tv, Without that I would probably be posting in a Lady Gaga fans forum now... So it was a big deal
Avantasia - The metal Opera, pt. 1 and 2 - possibly when I turned to METAL
Dream Theater - Falling into Infinity - it really changed my life when I heard it for the first time, in 2006
Ensiferum - Dragonheads - When I turned to Folk

Nachtmystium - Instinct:Decay
Possibly my favorite album of all time, it kind of sets me into a trance with the mixture of raw BM and psychedelic influences.

Dimmu Borgir - Spiritual Black Dimensions
Yeah, I know "Dimmu sucks and are mainstream etc". But this is the only Dimmu CD i still listen to regularly, even though it really gets no attention among their discography. It has a very eerie vibe that they could never capture again. I still like everything they did up until Death Cult Armageddon though.

Emperor - IX Equilibrium
I feel like this and "Anthems to the Welkin...." is where Emperor's discography really found its "sweet spot". I prefer IX though. I also got my copy in Norway at Neseblod records

Slayer - South of Heaven
Nuff said

Skeletonwitch - Beyond the Permafrost
The first new thrash album I'd bought in a long time. It reminded me that thrash was still alive

Metallica - Ride the Lightning - Favorite album. Simply perfect for me. Its heavy, it's thrashy, has amazing songs, great riffs and solo's... what else should be said? Its Legendary!

Opeth - Deliverance - In that time I used to listen to a lot of shity music to be honest... but when I heard Opeth, especially the Deliverance album, which is the first album I've heard from them, I grew up in a musical way and became curious about more new stuff. I was simply amazed by the complex riffs and solo's, instrumentally they played perfect for me, but the thing I liked the most was Mikael Akerfeldt's voice. Back in those days I was not much into the extreme genre's, but the shifting from clean and pure vocals to amazing growling vocals was something new and amazing for me.

Sepultura - Beneath the Remains - I remember I was hating Sepultura because of Roots Blood Roots, didn't find that song and Sepultura very great, simply because it was mainstream and I didn't get the point of the whole album.
One day on youtube I was watching the top 100 Metal Songs, list made by some random metalhead I guess, and while I was watching something around, I heard one of the most aggressive intro riffs I've ever heard... Band: Sepultura, Album: Beneath the Remains, Song: Stronger than hate. I couldn't believe what I was seeing! Downloaded the album ASAP, listen to it like 7 times in a row that day and I was still handbanging as crazy on every song. With this I've learned that I must hear the whole discography of a band before I dislike or like them. Again, this album helped me a lot to grow in the musical way, but it also contains very good quality Thrash Metal songs, that explain the genre it self as it should be... Aggressive riffs, with inspiring and influential lyrics about society, social problems etc.

Ok, so not the "most beautiful" but the most important ones.

If there's an album that is changing (yes, c-h-a-n-g-i-n-g) my life, it's "Agape". And I've never said such a thing for any other album, even the most wonderful and my absolute favourite - Joanna Newsom's "Ys".

Other very important albums for me are:
Nick Drake - "Pink Moon". Listened to it during one of my hardest times, and became a part of me.
The Gathering - "How To Measure A Planet?". Simply put, my "travel album". I couldn't think of a long nighttime road trip without it.
Anathema - "A Fine Day To Exit" . I used to listen to this wonderful and very underrated album while going out running two years ago. It was my passion. Unfortunately because of a cruciate ligament injury I had to stop and couldn't run anymore since then... But everytime I listen to that album I still feel the breeze of the fields where I used to go, and it's like I could run again.

However, there are a lot of albums that got me into metal, extreme metal and stuff like that, but I don't see them as "important". Yes, important for my first musical experience/knowledge, but not for my life.

First I got a mix cd from my dad with different AC/DC songs which made me start listening to hard rock/metal from the beginning, I was probably around 9-10.
Then I realized that I love this music so my dad gave me Iron Maiden's Powerslave and there it begun.
