Suicidal Tendencies - Toulouse, France, 29th October 2008 by Jeff (30) |
We all have bands that we listen since the beginning of our personal Metal history and Suicidal Tendencies follows me since a lot of time now. Strangely I've never seen them live, not even last year when they came to Toulouse for their big come back after Mike Muir illness. This is really weird though because Suicidal loves France and they used to come a lot here! Luckily, I was able to fix this big mistake lately when I finally saw for the first time one of my favorite bands. Ok, the line-up is not the one of their best releases and if I have to be honest I was a bit doubtful abou them but punish me Lord please I was a bad boy to think such horrible things! ST kicked our asses live and damn finally I can tell you how was this show!
But before Suicidal, we had the chance to see a really cool band, The Inspector Cluzo. I've never heard anything about them before this day but this duo seemed, on MySpace at least, to be really good. The two guys played an excellent groovy show and that's surprising really because they don't have any bass player (they even have a funny song called "fuck the bass player"). Between Rock, Metal and with a big Funk influence, the music of The Inspector Cluzo was perfect to open a show of Suicidal Tendencies. It was fun, dancing as hell and even if they were only two, the guys were communicative and the metalheads were receptive! It was not pure aggressive Metal but this crossover between Funk and Metal was pleasant and I hope that I will see this band again in the future. It's a really good band I invite you to check their Myspace page.
After a little break, ST finally came on stage and I can tell you that it was a blast! Mike Muir, even if he's not so young now, still ran everywhere on stage and his voice was still really good. The other guys were also excellent. Dean Pleasants was a marvelous guitarist with a fucking groove and his way to play the guitar was magic. Mike Clark also was super cool and really communicative and the two other guys were, for me at least, the most impressive musicians of the whole night. Steeve Brunner played all the songs without any problems but the most impressive thing was his musical skill. We all had the same feeling, this guy was probably one of the best and most impressive bass player that we ever seen. And what about the new drummer, Eric Moore? Jesus, the best thing for you is to have a look on YouTube to see his drums demonstrations. This big black boy is the living incarnation of the word groove, and believe me, not a lot of confirmed Metal drummers could do what he did this night with such a class. It was just magic!
Of course I regret a bit that the set list missed a bit of old classics like "Monopoly On Sorrow" or "Nobody Hears" but all in all we didn't have any breaks and the concert was powerful as hell with songs like "How Will I Laugh Tomorrow", "We Are Family" or "You Can't Bring Me Down". We even had the chance to listen to a new song which will be featured on their next album which should be out next year and it was really good, technical and aggressive. ST, this is something that you must see one day because you're all missing something great and when you know that for the encore, they asked to the whole audience to come on stage to thing the last song with them, I think that nothing has to be added. ST and their fans this night was a real family.
I have nothing to add really except that Mike Clark told me that the band will do some festivals this summer so I already expect to see them again the next summer ( at Hellfest?). ST was a real live band, a killer which proposed a lot of hits to its audience and we didn't have any let downs during the show. Don't miss it without any doubt if they come to your city. It was just a really great night and I can't stop to say again in my head the famous ST, ST, ST? Wow, it was magic really!
