The previous release of The Moon And The Nightspirit simply kicked my ass? I'm not really into pure Folk and Ethereal music but "Regö Rejtem" was an amazing discovery for me and I still listen to this album from time to time. When I received their new release "Ösforrás" (released by Equilibrium Music one more time), a big smile appeared on my face. I was just expecting a lot of this release and I was simply sure that the best of the best was in my hand. Bands don't always release great album but luckily it seems that the two members of this Hungarian ban are just unbeatable when it comes to write good music?
One more time, the new album of The Moon And The Nightspirit "Ösforrás" is a pure masterpiece of Folk music. I probably have to repeat myself again but this is not traditional Metal even if, of course, we have real links to our favorite music in the music of TMATN. The ambiances are dark (a bit Goth) the melodies are epic and above all, the medieval inspiration of the combo is clearly similar to a ton of Metal bands. Though of course, the instruments are traditional ones, folk guitars, flutes, percussions etc and nothing electric. Don't expect any real "riffs" and distortion, "Ösforrás" is just full of acoustic sounds but damn if you like Folk, this is an absolute must! The melodies are beautiful but it doesn't lack of rhythm (like for example on the fabulous "Hétvilág") and one more time the whole songs of the release are hits. The great thing with "Ösforrás" is that you can find melancholic songs, like happy ones, slow like fast ones but always with a fantastic deep "folkish" ambiance. It's hard to talk about TMATN's music, and the best thing to do is to listen to their album from the beginning to the end to understand it.
The voice of Agnes Toth is absolutely fabulous and probably even better than in the past. Her band mate Mihaly Szabo doesn't sing a lot on this release but both are perfect when it comes to play with their instruments; there is nothing wrong here from the music, to the musicians and finally the recording. Yes the recording of "Ösforrás" is perfect and limpid like crystal-water and one more time the CD, released in a digipack version, is absolutely beautiful. What can I add really? "Ösforrás" is probably the best release of The Moon And Nightspirit and if you're into Gothic Music, Folk or simply beautiful stuff, you don't have the right to miss this release.
"Ösforrás" is a fantastic journey in a medieval, traditional folk world. The Moon And Nightspirit is probably one of the best combos in the genre and if you didn't have the chance to listen to their previous albums, "Ösforrás" will probably be the ultimate way to discover them. Thumb-up to this fantastic Hungarian band, "Ösforrás" is a must, no really you don't have the right to miss this album if you like Folk and melancholic music?
