Guns N' Roses - Use Your Illusion II

By a very small margin, and I'm sure I've mentioned this on here before, this album is definitively the best G N' R record for me. There's not as much filler as in Use Your Illusion I (though we're only talking a difference of one or two songs), and I kind of enjoy the more "laidback" approach of the songwriting in this album than the rawer, more menacing style of Appetite. That said, Use Your Illusion II details very obvious highlights, which turn out to be maturer than the album's weaker moments (namely "You Could Be Mine" and "Pretty Tied Up", which for me are more shoe-ins than good songs). "Estranged" and "Locomotive" in particular get me excited every time they turn up on the stereo, "Civil War" has fantastic lyrical input, and "My World" is ludicrous genius. Above all, I think what makes me appreciate Use Your Illusion II so much is that the songwriting in general seems to reflect G N' R at their most solid, though it's really just one opinion.

You lost me at "ludicrous genius" as a description for "My World".

First one was better.

I like both equally first has heavier songs, this more better worked radu friendy songs

The song "You Could Be Mine" is what edges this for me over the first one.

For me, it's the fact that "I" has too many filler tracks between November Rain and Coma. And also that "II" was the first album I ever bought and was obsessed with.

There is a few fillers on this one, but the first one had far too many fillers for me, aside from "November Rain" of course, that song is a classic.

Another factor in favour of I is the weird tracklisting on II. The album just fizzles out. After "Estranged" (incredible song, the best candidate for a closer here), we get "You Could Be Mine" (good song, odd placement), "Don't Cry" (great song, but again?) and then a minute and a half of bullshit.

I ends with "Coma". That's how you close a record.

Tbh the only songs I liked on Use Your Illusion I are "Don't Cry" and "November Rain".

How can this piece of crap have an 8.4 rating? There's like 5 maybe 6 good songs on it.

I remember buying the Illusion CDs on the day they were released and was amazed at how much shite they were filled with.

Gutted I didn't buy them on vinyl instead as I could have flogged them on for a healthy profit to some mug.

^ both Illusions are uneven, a bit of a chore to listen.
Also they were overplayed back in the day, you could not escape them, which became annoying really fast.
Axl's behavior is a total different story, not to be chatted about here.
