OK, here's another project I just recently started together with a Norwegian friend. A demo/self produced album is on the way but for now there's two songs ready on the myspace:

Don't hesitate to let me know you're thoughts!

Well, if you want an honest opinion, I listened to "Die Untergang" and for the first two minutes or so, the vocals, rhythm guitar, and drums were decent, but I felt the lead guitar that came in occasionally at first, then stayed in the background after a bit wasn't appealing at all. The breakdown, so to speak, that came in at about 2:15 was ok, but that that arpeggio was a little boring, and could have been varied a bit. The lead guitar came back in later and wasn't any more appealing then. Maybe it is just the production quality, but the song would be better if you just took it out, and maybe added more riffs, more of a massive sound and structure. It seems like filler when you make this 1:15 or so long breakdown, only to have the song return and then play for approximately a minute before launching into something that is not metal again - the end of the song, where you have the little girl (?) singing and all that that ended the track. I listened to the other song at the link you provided and I only really got past 1:23 in before I stopped. However, the best part of any of the leading guitar parts was the section in "Snapped" from 1:17 to 1:22. That little bit right there could, potentially, be a neat texture with better production or polish, however you want to put it. After that, it went back to a kind of weak and unappealing sound, so I stopped there.

On the more positive side though, I think the vocals are great, and with a little rearranging and polish, the rest of the music could be pretty good. Just my two cents.

Of course I want an honest opinion.

I'm sorry about taking so long before giving a proper answer to this but I thought since you obviously put a lot of thought into your "mini-review" I wanted to give a thought through answer, OK here goes:

The lead guitar is actually one of the most important parts in creating the Lidice sound. It's atonal and noisy and there to create a certain "feeling" of chaos and discomfort and that's probably what you refer to as "wasn't appealing at all". Let's not forget that the song is about the fall of Berlin and the music together with the vocals is meant to create the image of a city being gunned to dust day after day while the enemy tanks are closing in ready for the final blow. Hence the "breakdown" (I'm not so found of that word but let's stick with it since it's your word of choice) where I was trying to paint the picture of calm before the storm, a sudden stop in the mangling destruction that only lasts for so long and ends when the sound of the siren tells everyone to return to shelter. The end of the song has it's own meaning but that you'll have to figure out for yourselves and if I'm not mistaken I think it's a boy, but I could be wrong in that. Also I would like to make absolutely clear that the production is exactly the way I want it for this project. If I went into a 15 million dollar studio to redo the whole thing I would still want it to sound the same way because that's Lidice and if the sound is not unique it's at least different from most other bands in the field.

Not bad at all. Rather reminds me of early Blut aus Nord sans keyboards plus those curious clean guitars. Nice exit too with the nursery rhyme thing.

BaN has absolutely been a source of inspiration but I'm not trying to be BaN or anything else most of it is from inside me. I actually thought about adding keyboards but I was afraid it would "soften" the sound if you see what I'm saying.

Depends how you use them really. Going for subtle background synths is a great way of provoking an atmosphere.

Absolutely! But you might fuck up the whole thing and create something that sounds like Alphaville;)

The song Snapped already sounds great as it is, just needs a little bit more distortion, but shouldn"t be changed
the song Der Untergang still needs editing, you should speed up the section before the lead comes, reduce the repetitions afterwards ( > shorter, but more interesting song), throw out the break, if you want to keep something like it in, please without the soft guitar and the low mixed siren, maybe instead a few seconds of low frequency distortion blending into the siren mixed high could work. the way the song restarts after that break is awesome though, you should keep it as it is. and please, also add distortion to this song

Thanks for your objective advice and kind words. I'll keep them all in mind for the future final mix and mastering. One thing though, when you say "add distortion" do you mean that as in "add a distortion effect to the mastering effects" or as in "increase the amount of distortion on the vocal track".

OK, interesting opinion. I'm a bit afraid that if I put any more distortion on the guitars they will turn into white noise he he.

Just saw the "Lidice" movie and I can really recommend it but to clarify the situation. This is from the band blog at myspace:

"Then I find out that there is a movie called "Lidice" that was released in 2011! I never checked for movies when I decided on the name. I checked other bands and songs but never for movies. Anyway it's not really important but just to clarify, I had the idea of this project in different shapes and form since I first read about the destruction of Lidice when I was 11 years old so it is in no way inspired by the movie with the same name and have nothing at all to do with it."
