Devin Townsend - Ziltoid The Omniscient

It's a goofy and loony concept but once you're able to see through the humor you'll be amazed how deep this album actually is.

Perhaps the goofiest concept for an album ever, this is far from DT's best work. However, it still has a good collection of different styles and moods.

How come this album is so good?

Progressive has never been so much fun.

This is the Devin album I listen to when I want some fun to go with my metal. Sometimes I like to have fun.

This was a very very painful listen. I tried a few times and even though I don't mind the concept, the music is plain horrible. I guess Devin's work is not something for my taste, I rarely enjoy anything he produces.

Good album to listen while sipping some cofee.

'Hyperdrive' is the best song on this album IMO, 'By Your Command' is also pretty great.

8.6/10 for me - 'Planet Smasher' and 'Color Your World' bring the rating down as the lowlights of the album. Still Devin's best release to date.

While I'm not sure it's his best work, "Hyperdrive" is a banger

Revisiting and I think it's a lot better than I first gave it credit for, the concept is great, a good balance of philosophy and humour. The highlight for me though, is all the different vocal styles and voices Devin puts on for all that characters, bloody legend.

Musical highlights would be the atmospheric riff in "By Your Command", very unexpected and unique, "Solar Winds", "Hyperdrive", "Color Your World" (the bipolar nature of this song as Ziltoid switches between his tough facade and nerd roots is executed very well), "The Greys", and of course the hilarious outro.

This is quite the entertaining listen.

I’m seconding Guib, this one kicks ass and it’s tied with Biomech for my second favorite Devin album. Addicted is my favorite though, can’t get enough of that style of pop metal

I had no idea what this album was going to sound like when I started playing it. That was just awesome. I have such a big grin plastered on my face right now.
