Cultes Des Ghoules - Reveal Details About New Studio Album

Polish black metallers Cultes Des Ghoules are all set to unleash their upcoming third studio album unto the world on November 25th, 2016 in CD format and February 17th, 2017 in digital format. The record follows their 2013 sophomore album, Henbane. A sample track has also been released as a stream on their Bandcamp page. Check it out over here.

The news was revealed by their label Hells Headbangers Records in a press release: "A mysterious collective with a full lineup but no facts fully revealed about it, Cultes Des Ghoules have always let their music speak for itself. Their early demos and Odd Spirituality EP, all highly sought after upon their initial release, eventually culminated in Cultes Des Ghoules' classic debut album, Häxan. Released in 2008 but eventually reissued by Hells Headbangers Records in 2011 after its first two versions quickly sold out, Häxan was a mesmerizing monolith beyond compare - ghoulish, gibbering, and ghastly in equal measures - although its sinful stench fondly recalled the likes of earliest, evilest Necromantia, Beherit, Mayhem, and Mortuary Drape.

"Alas, even all that cannot prepare the willing for Cultes Des Ghoules' Coven. On the surface, the epically winding ritualism the band had worked toward is present and accounted for...until you realize that that's simply the first track. For Coven is indeed a literally Massive album, totalling nearly 100 minutes across five near-equally massive songs; not for nothing will it be presented individually on two CDs and three vinyl LPs. But there is purpose to such staggering lengths: the album is, in fact, a sort of 'play' whose full title is Coven, or Evil Ways Instead of Love. Inspired by Master's Hammer's The Jilemnice Occultist, which is a black metal operetta with a story about romance and witchcraft, Cultes Des Ghoules wanted to write something similar but with more serious intent and without any 'romance' themes. And with time, it evolved into the form that's finally revealed to the public."

China was a neat
Time to revisit the previous two records. The new album sample sounds fun and nasty riffy bm.

Lots of name-checking in the press release, but to me they're the epitome of ordinary. Henbane wasn't bad but aside from the ritualistic bits thrown in I still can't see why it was so highly praised. The new track sounds forgettable as anything.

^ Alright. That sample did indeed sound something fun if not anything else. Can't comment on them entirely until listening to the earlier albums in full.

The whole track sounded like a big build to me, with the fun bit never actually happening

I mean, the sample track is literally the prologue, so that makes sense

Yeah that's what it sounded like, so not sure where the riffy and fun bits are =P

The riffs from the 3:30 point or something sounded quite fun to me. Also nothing spectacular or mindblowing fun but really some above-average stuff that's indeed enjoyable. Not praising it head over heals but frankly doesn't seem that bad at all.

Well it did sound a lot more like a sample than a track, yes. But I don't think it represents the album well, at least not if the album is going to consist of ritual over 10 minute epic songs like the last one, which is what I'm expecting.

Nice surprise (to me at least) though.. Wasn't aware of a new CdG.

Extremely boring, tedious, tiresome, unremarkable, forgettable and dull song. Is the rest of their stuff like this? If so, this would be just another ordinary BM band whose stuff gets praised for no good reason, just like Mgla and Batushka.

Ouch, that was harsh

Btw, the 23-minute long track has been uploaded to Bandcamp. I might pick it up just because it looks massively huge.

I hope not. Because I can't think of anything in which they have in common.
