After being plagued by lightning strikes last year, which injured several people, the German festival Rock Am Ring has faced a terrorist threat yesterday. Crowds at the festival had to be evacuated because of "concrete leads" of a possible terror threat. The fest was interrupted on Friday, the first night of the three-day event but is set to resume today.

After intensive searches and sweeps of the complete festival site by the police the suspicion of a potential terrorist threat has not been confirmed. The organizers said in statement that police had warned of a bomb threat against the event and cleared out the festival to perform a security sweep.

Up to 90,000 visitors were expected at the festival, with many due to watch German industrial metal giants Rammstein perform on Friday night before the evacuation, and also In Flames, Five Finger Death Punch, Skindred, Rival Sons and Clutch.

The bands due to perform at the festival today include Die Toten Hosen, Sleeping With Sirens, Suicide Silence and Pierce The Veil.

The terror threat on Rock am Ring comes just a couple of weeks after an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, England was attacked by a suicide bomber, leaving 22 people dead and several injured.
