Gothic metal as it should be. Gothic. And metal.

Too many times you come across that descriptor and think to yourself, oh great, more high school girlfriend drivel I have to pretend I'm into so we can stay up late listening to her favorite songs while I'm just waiting for the moment she lets me take her bra off.

Bras suck anyway. You've been scammed, ladies. Aside from you medically malfunctioning mammary mamas out there. They're bunk. Those early wave feminists got it right. Now show me bob and vagene.

Anyway, this is a... surprising album. That's a red flag of a word, but accurate based on what lies beneath. It's not like you're going from The 69 Eyes to prehistoric Anathema, which may be what that gothic metal tag has you thinking. But it also isn't necessarily Tiamat (which stylistic era am I right). Instead, this is more like a true haunting horror movie in music form, psychologically pretty tame, but atmospherically unsettling as fuck. It's macabre in the base sense, with semi-low-pitched growled vocals, bouncing drums and energetic guitar licks bordering on groovy from start to finish.

This is the kind of shit you'd expect Anne Rice vampires to rock out to during some underground club sexcapade orgy and I'm not really sure I can explain it better than that. And even though it isn't my personal preference, it's about as good as you can expect from the genre, so take that or leave it.

I dont see them too often nowdays haha. They are cool people but the inconsistency of liking all the previous albums and hating this one so much kind of made me confused!

It was merely a point of fact. There's no more renowned undead queen of the gothic orgy party than the legendary Anne Rice. That horny old devil woman shat albums like this out her vampire-cum-filled mouth before metal was even invented.

Such a great album, so many different genre combinations, almost like a genre of it's own, and I never believed how much Chapel Of Disease sounded just like Tribulation up until now, both band's are extraordinarily unique.

I'm still wrestling on which is their best album. Both sound great.

I'm still wrestling on which is their best album. Both sound great.

So far only listened to this one and Where The Gloom Becomes Sound and I really like both, so I'll go back and check out their earlier releases. I've heard they are completely different and more on the extreme end of metal whereas these later albums are softer in comparison, so it should be very interesting.
