A 36-minutes-long song! Take that, Moonsorrow!

Man, the last track is 36 minutes, just started this album, the first track reminds me a great deal of Rastlos, should be an awesome album

Simon Schillinger is one crazy genius bastard. This band went from amusing folk music straight into epic symphonic elite.

Solid stuff, they have become more professional and have more of an "own style" now as opposed to being a Moonsorrow-worship band.

I am usually very sceptic about long songs, but Ecce Homo is fantastic.

The Bandcamp version's a bit expensive. The price more than doubles to ship it here. Looks like I'm going to Amazon again.

This is a problem I've come across all too often unfortunately. As much as you want to be the "buy local" supporter or to have more direct involvement with purchasing of goods, sometimes the shipping costs alone are enough to force you into choosing the conglomerate.

When you see $9.99 on the page and that somehow becomes something like $29.99 when the alternative offers $14.99 on their page and it stays that way upon completing your transaction, it's an obvious choice.

I was kind of disappointed through the first song but wow did the rest deliver! Half of Wut and the first half of Fluch Des Seins were really forgettable (the latter of which completely redeems itself), but right when I thought this album might be a bust it started hitting harder and harder and every song kept blasting its predecessor away. Zerfall, Fluch Des Seins, and Weltenbrand are all really satisfying on their own and then everything culminates with the monster that is Ecce Homo. It's easily worth going through a few mediocre valleys early on in order to reach the many high peaks of greatness in the second two thirds of the album.

Ecce Homo alone is without a doubt Finsterforst's greatest accomplishment ever if not their best song outright. Throughout that song I could hardly believe it was the same album and may have questioned if I was even on the same planet. I haven't felt the same way about a song since Moonsorrow's V: Hävitetty, and I never thought I would again. Finsterforst has always lacked Moonsorrow's emotional element but they have clearly reached Moonsorrow's depth and prowess. Ecce Homo feels like it is one complete song that shouldn't have been cut in two so the run time wasn't much of a gimmick either, or was at least certainly more fitting than say Insomnium's Winter's Gate.

All in all, I think that after everyone hated #‎YØLØ‬ so much Finsterforst should have called this album Redemption, or rather its German equivalent, because they came back with some of their very best work.

Yolo was stated to be a joke side release from day 1, the band was never going to stray from the path at that time.

I can't say Ecco Homo reaches Hävitetty level of coherence, the depth and detail of those two tracks are simply beyond everything I've seen in epics, still I enjoy it a lot as well as the album in whole which is pretty much almost flawless.

We're two of the few who got the memo about the joke with Yolo, which is why I loved it because they still gave it their best, but so very many seemed to have missed that.

I agree that Ecce Homo doesn't quite reach Hävitetty, or even Verisäkeet, but to land in the same ballpark is quite an achievement.

Yeah coming from the same camp, I had Moonsorrow level of expectations, and I dont have many complaints about Ecco Homo, doenst even have that much filler in it considering the length of the track, most of it is genuine and well done music.

Moonsorrow really did something special with Hävitetty and Tulimyrsky

Moonsorrow really did something special with Hävitetty and Tulimyrsky

Tulimyrsky is clearly divided into three sections like black / folk / black again. Hävitetty is NOT DIVIDED into anything and that still amazes me, it just goes on and on and on and by the time it ends you can't say how on earth you got there. I still can't even approach memorizing its structure though I heard it over a hundred of times.

Actually Finsterforst kinda can do this trick, they had that closer track on zum Tode Hin which was extremely well connected. And then there's that opener on MDF which is only 13 mins but has that very feel, there's no obvious structure, it simply carries on through slight but very clever shifts. So maybe someday?!

Huh? I must have forgotten to comment this album. As already pointed out, these guys have clearly got their inspiration from Moonsorrow, which just happens to be one of my favorite bands of all time. Zerfall is just as epic and orgasmic as any of their better albums, the 30+ minutes long grande finale Ecce Homo is truly one of a kind masterpiece of metal, the single best metal song of 2019.

Highly recommended.
