This is a perfect example of why I am no longer interested in the majority of SW music post Porcupine Tree.

Well, I did not dislike it
I admire him for trying new things, I'll give him that.
Let's see what the rest of the album sounds like...

Wilson's one of my favorite musical artists and I've enjoyed all the albums he's released since PT. I love that he continues to try new sounds, but after a couple of listens I still don't care for this song. Maybe it'll grow grow on me, but I doubt it.

He said in an interview that he does not want to reform PT, he does not like to repeat himself, which I guess he sticks to it so far. Every solo album he did is different than the next... Good for him, let's see if the fans stick with him.

IRONY ALERT: This song is terribly repetitive.
'Four Chords That Made A Million' rings true.

It sounds like disco mixed with electronic music. No thanks.

I'm just telling what I heard him say in an interview.
Even making a pop album, he is not repeating himself.

I miss Porcupine Tree. I have listened to and enjoyed a lot of his electro/experimental music that he's done in the past but this is just plain awful!

This was pretty great, reminds me of a lot of new wave stuff. That bass is pretty fantastic. Glad he finally got tired of doing just prog rock.

When Steven Wilson met Mikael Akerfeldt and produced Opeth, he started playing metal on "In Absentia". I wonder who/what was his inspiration this time around.

I hate to hate on him but that's a big yikes from me. I don't even dislike the music direction he's going for, but the song itself is pretty underwhelming and forgettable. I still feel pretty cold about his solo material stuff and it only seems to get worse. It seems like he is constantly adopting new and different styles without ever developing a fresh take on them. The production is pretty nice as always though, I'll give him that.

Honestly the vocal harmonies are the only thing I actually REALLY like about the song, the rest is ok or meh (leaning more on the meh side I feel like), so I don't see myself listening to this song again for any genuine reason. Personally I don't care what genre he ventures into, I have no attachment. But I'm not feeling this one. Oh and I'm a quite a fan of vintage sounding production, but you see this is a good example of the ones I almost find ugly and annoying, it's tolerable but I am simply not enjoying it.
