God, what happened. I'm not a hard person to please, I've enjoyed everything right up to their last release despite an obvious decline, but this was just bad.

Really saddens me because Helmet was one of my introductory bands to metal. They've been with me for a long time, but I can no longer say I'm looking forward to further releases.

I really dislike giving negative ratings so I'm not going to score it, but I'll just say it would be in the red if I did.

I tried one song and had to turn it off as I found it hard to get through; the only reason I tried it again was because Heavy Blog Is Heavy had it as their pick of the week in their weekly round-up and they often pick some cool finds for that, but they also pick some duffers, and having given a second listen to a couple of songs, I think this was one of their weak picks. I don't know Helmet much outside of Meantime so no idea what the journey to this point has been, but something was off here

Prime example of an album that's "Not Good".

Just very drab and hollow. Lame empty songwriting with terrible production. Why can't bands that have been around for decades not get the drum sound right? It's crazy how many bands fuck this up. The cymbals and snare here sound brutal.
