I'm really happy to hear that they dropped the terrible bassy sound that marred the last two albums.

This is very encouraging. Strong Watershed vibes. And agree, production sounds good too.

It is a play off the album title. The section sign § is used in legal documents so the album being "Last will and testament" and the songs are sections of the will. You would read the song title as "Section 1", "Section 2", etc.

All signs point to this being at least a worthwhile album. Even that cover is very 00s Opeth.

First ten seconds in, and it's clear it's gonna be different, and then the growls hit. Weird transition to the middle part though

Now THAT'S more like it. I enjoyed the last album, but this is the real Opeth. Based on this song, it seems to have its own sound and not just a lazy retread of their old albums.

For me, the weak point since Watershed was always the atmosphere, rather than a lack of growls (Watershed obviously had growls, too). The songs on the last five albums didn’t have the same mesmerizing effect on me as albums like Morningrise or Still Life. This song brings back the atmosphere, but with a darker and more epic twist. Opeth has taken cues from Therion in the past, and the feeling here has a similar vibe, but it’s on a whole other level. This song is fucking amazing and I am genuinely excited for the album.

This Radio Edit version is decent but feels rushed. I would imagine that the full length version of this song will have more of that signature Opeth style death metal progression. Almost sounds like it has some of those evil Deliverance undertones.

If song lengths on Metal Archives are anything to go by, the album version is only about 70 seconds longer, so I wouldn't expect too much progression compared to the radio edit.

Yeah, valid point. I had seen the track lengths elsewhere after posting this. Looks like they are all around 6-7 minutes which would put the total album length at around 50 minutes. Michael commented it will probably take a while for people to catch on to the album since it's so different.

I'm very excited Mikael decided to bring the growls back again, and sounds so good. He wasn't sounding good live since Devil's Orchard released, so maybe he needed a break. Maybe he will rejoin Bloodbath since he's growling again?? Lol jkjk.. definitely Watershed vibes, agreed 👍
