Incantation's second full-length album, with the good old Pillar making those low (and I mean LOW as hell) growls, a great cover and splendid music, Mortal Throne Of Nazarene is an album that people barely talks about due to different reasons, but now it's time for us to check this album essence, so I will do my best to catch the actual meaning of Mortal Throne?

This album is the most brutal one in the Incantation catalog, the guitar riffs are stretched the drums are crushing(check "Emaciated Holy Figure" those drums in the beginning are something close to pain) and the vocal reach is one of the lowest tones I've ever heard (yes man I know mortician and skinless, this is better believe me), The album is in a good way straight and with no pretensions, this album was truly made for the love of Brutal and extreme music, not at all to prove if they are good musicians or if they can manage to create complex solos or irregular beats( Note: I am not saying they are bad.)

The songs generally are good, in some point you might feel the music a little tedious or monotonous(the lack of good solos or shades is a little droning), there is one song I truly enjoy and love, "The Ibex Moon" the intro with the drums is great, then when the initial growl starts everything calms down a little, but only to warn you because in the minute 1:28 everything seems so fast, so angry, so great, I admit this is no thing new or impressive, but the fact that this song includes a great slow intro showing a progression is just astounding, this song has a lot of musical shades, irregular beats, slow and fast moments, even that last growl is awesome.

After The Ibex Moon everything is possible, and the best way to prove it is with another great song, called "Abolishment Of Immaculate Serenity" a slow song with cool long riffs, and incredibly slow drum-beats, now the actual fact is that "Abolishment?" sounds incredible at the beginning, but after the first 5 minutes of the same tempo it starts to get again tedious, but anyway the song in the end is structured and complex, so I insist in calling it "a great song".

Surely not the best Incantation album, but it has good moments, it's quite good to be honest, but I tell you this, just imagine, if "Mortal Throne Of Nazarene" is not as good as other albums and still manages to sound great, think how good albums like "Onward To Golgotha", "Diabolical Conquest" or "Upon the Throne Of Apocalypse" will sound like. Makes you wonder right?

Thats funny.... Im looking at the track list for 'Upon the Throne of the Apocalypse' and it has the same song names listed on this album, but backwards.

Kinda makes you wonder, right?

Cool review, will check this out soon.

I think that album was due to a problem with a disagreement with the record company over Mortal Throne. I could be wrong, but Upon the Throne is Incantation's preferred version of the album and has somewhat muddier production.

Only 2 comments! This band is underappreciated! Good review, I think the score is about right. The doomy part with the feedback in Demonic Incarnate is class.

I didn't really think too highly of this album the first couple of times that I heard it, but it has really grown on me. I don't know if it is quite as good as Onward to Golgotha or Diabolical Conquest, but it is very close and some days, I may say that it is just as good.

I prefer this album over ''Onward to Golgotha''.. the better production was a decisive factor to this decision, since the quality of the band didnt decay.
