Metallica's 2003 release, St. Anger, will most likely always be considered the low point of the bands discography. I'm not sure if I can completely agree with this. I personally believe Load and Reload are worse albums. Mind you, St. Anger is absolutely not a fantastic release. It rambles, has some bad tracks, and sometimes you wonder "what are they doing?" (listen to Hetfield's moans in Invisible Kid). But the album does have energy, something the band has had on about 3 tracks on the last 2 studio discs.

Highlights are "Frantic" and the title track, among others, and the darkness of "Some Kind of Monster" is another highpoint. Other good tracks are "Shoot Me Again", "Sweet Amber", and "All Within My Hands". The others simply have good moments but miss the mark of a great song. This album will always will be looked down upon due to the drums, the sound, and the omission of guitar solos. However, I am willing to guess that this album just may be one of the more important ones the band has ever released.

This album could very well be the first large step the band has taken in a while to making quality music again. The album has great riffs, the best they've done in 10 years. Imagine if this album had better production and guitar solos. I am willing to bet it would be held in higher regard than Load and Reload. Perhaps over time, the respect for this album will grow. Depending on the greatness of the next album, fans may end up realizing St. Anger for what I believe it is: a hopeful step in the right direction.

Six long years after the release of ReLoad, Metallica come back on the scene to show their 8th studio album, St. Anger. Many of you have almost lost all the respect for this band since the release of the black album, many others hate them because of Load and ReLoad and some others have now lost every interest in their music. Actually, what can you all expect from the band who left its early amazing style to get fame and glory on MTV?

Load and Reload worse than St. Anger, wow that's just stunning...

The crappiest song on (Re)Load is still lightyears better than St. Anger i.m.V.H.o.

I fine example of what I mean...it will always be unfairly considered their worst. I have yet to sit and listen to Reload once all the way through, I start vomiting 5 songs into it.;D

Well, then just skip straight to "Where The Wild Things Are" or "Fixxxer", absolutely monumental songs. Seriously, do yourself a favour.

I have. I have listened to Reload many times. I admit WTWTA and Fixxer are 2 of the better songs, but they aren't great songs. They have moments of awesomeness but sometimes lag (like most of the St. Anger album). The think that separates St. Anger with Reload is that St. Anger has a lot of good/not great tracks and 4 great tracks. Reload has about 3 good/not great tracks, 1 good track, and the rest just plain sucks.

Wow, another review for this thing. Good job, it's nice to hear someone not bashing every last particle of Anger down to the ground, though I would have made more of a mention on the unnecessary length/repetition of the songs - however that has nearly always been a problem for Met, it seems much worse here considering the extent of repetition and the quality of what's repeated.

Now is it time someone did a proper review of Justice?

I kind of didn't see the point for this review . . . But, hey; everything on there is kinda' true.

Shit, I just can't stand Sr. Anger in general. It's hard to listen to something like Ride the Lightning, and then think of something such as St. Anger.

I think 7.2 shouldn't really be called "such a good vote". That is barely passing in my mind. Besides, I think a good review for a bad album is better than a bad review for a good album. Have you seen the ...And Justice review on here?

Since when is 7.2 hardly a pass? 7.2 = 72% which means it is a tad about average.

Fine then. What do you consider a "failing" score? 6.9 is where the suck begins to get poured on for me. Thats just me I guess, but I think this album deserves a 7.2. 96% of Metallica fans/haters will disagree, but I don't care. It is a decent album that doesn't deserve the banner of "Worst Metallica Album". Thats just my opinion, of course, but I stand by it.

A fail score is anything UNDER 5.5 in my books. Just like it is in schools.

...you fail after 5.5's? I am from the States, and we fail a class if our end average is 69.4. Anything under a 70 is failing. I guess its about where you come from, I have never thought about grading systems for different countries...how strange...

That is a good point. Very funny if you consider that my automotive class would fail any test less than 100% You can't really argue how your personality divides passing and failing numbers, it's just the same as varying musical tastes. Myself, I give Anger a 5 and consider it acceptable - just barely. Worst Metallica album indeed IMO (so far...) but definitely not worst music album ever.

I partially agree with this review. I really think St. Anger was more like a turnpoint to something else and better. I cant' wait for the next year's release.

If people think St.Anger is the worst music album ever, they should pull their heads out of their asses and listen to more music.

And I find it funny how "extreme Metallica fans" claim to enjoy Load and Reload more, when St.Anger is 10 times more "extreme".

I dont know really, Ive heard max 3 songs from this album, and it is 3 songs too much. I will never manage to understand why the hell do they needed this , but.... I wouldnt score it more than 5, no way... And becaue it is by an acomplished band, it deserves no more than 2......

My problem with St. Anger was not that it was a Nu-Metal album. It was that it was a bad Nu-Metal album. Nothing on it was really interesting, or original. It is not even that it wasn't Thrash Metal, because Load is my favorite Metallica album.

I dont really understand what are you saying, sorry... but, of course, 'new(ish) bands do produce "pure shit", many of them, that wasnt my point, the point was something different - if you look at what this band is (was) capable of, (just look at the Ride The Lightning for instance), and that look at their last album, isnt that waste of time, talent, and all??? I hope you understood me, kinda....

Exactly, it's not the same band, it's 20 years and two bassists later. It just seemed a bad sentence where you said "wouldnt score it more than 5 ... And becaue it is by an acomplished band, it deserves no more than 2" like a double standard where one should not exist

Yeah youre right, but its like, you see many such (young) untalented bands pop up every day, and when they make something like this, naturally, you wouldnt be disapointed, I mean, who gives a fuck, but when a band that used to be SOMETHING some years ago, makes something like this....
