I have this Ep from a young band from Italy, the name of the band? Eternal Gate, seems that this "Eternal" thing in the band names is becoming more and more common lately these days, I hope that this won't escalate like "Dark" or Seventh" which are the more common words in band names nowadays.
Anyway, 5 song Ep/Demo, with a good presentation, nice cover art, and even lyrics, is nice to see bands making an effort to look well, the first song "More Than This" could be described as a mid paced Prog-Power metal song, with nice breaks, and overall good musicianship, one thing that didn't convinced me was the vocals of Massimo Callegari, when he tries to reach high notes his voice becomes really annoying.
This just gets worst in the second song "Shadows Of My Life" when the vocals are just unbearable, as for the song, is a nice one, and I could imagine this as a great song with other vocalist.
"Shines On Me" is a more direct approach to the Power Metal style, a great fast-paced song, with nice breaks, and great melodies, the vocal delivery improves here, thanks to some back-up vocals.
The rest of the Ep, follows the same path of the aftermentioned songs, great songs, killer keyboards, but mediocre vocals, is a shame because with a better production and overall improvement in the vocal department, Eternal Gate could achieve things, hope that they notice that and begin some drastic changes in the band.
