Dies Ater is one of those Symphonic Black Metal bands from Germany that overpopulate a genre that is so crowded that doesn't have much room for originality.
Now I'll correct myself, Dies Ater was one of those bands, because after some line up changes and signing with a new label (Black Attakk) the band decided to take a different musical direction. Is not very easy to explain how this sound but is like a dose of Gothic Metal injected in a base of Black Metal with some Thrash elements and overall Dark atmosphere, sounds cool right?
The band released 3 full lengths before this four song Mcd, entitled "Out Of The Dark", the title song of the Mcd, is a cover version of eighties hit artist Falco, I must say despite the genre which Falco dwelled, this version of "Out Of The Dark" is damn good, really Dark with electronic elements and a overall Gothic touch, a damn catchy song is it (although I never heard the original).
Then we get to taste some of the real Dies Ater with "Death To Last" a mid paced Blackish song with some Gothic overtones, like clean vocals and harmonious melodies, next is "Ewiges Eis" a song which begins slow, melancholic, almost doomy, then it becomes more melodic but still gloomy, some spoken parts also appear in the song, great "experimental" track. Finally is a new version of "Dethrone The Weak Mortality" a song from their 2003 album "Chanting Evil" this song is also great, begins really calm, almost boring, but then, some killer riffs blew my head off, and then the song really takes off from there.
Dies Ater present us 4 songs to show us a new era in their career, and I must say that I'm really impressed, and I cant wait for a full length from these guys, I'm sure they're gonna blow my head off ! just keep experimenting! I want weirder stuff from Dies Ater.
