Finnish and melodic? Should I look surprised?
The Finnish Metal scene is one of the biggest and notorious in the whole globe, we get releases from the land of the thousand lakes almost on weekly basis (and I'm not joking), for a country with only 5 million people approximately, is quite an accomplishment.
Other thing associated with the Finnish scene is the word "melodic" almost every Finnish Metal band plays "Melodic (insert genre here) Metal", like Melodic Black Metal, Melodic Power Metal, and in this particular case Melodic Death Metal.
Yeah, I know what you're thinking, you're sick and tired of all those Melodic Death Metal bands spreading all over the freakin' globe. Same riffing, same growling, same song structure, every single release brings too little innovation to the scene. Sadly, this is no exception.
This is the sophomore effort of the band and I must say is not that different from their debut album "Ode To My Misery", melodic leads paired with violent riffing and growling-screaming, average stuff you know.
That doesn't mean this is bad at all, is just not that original. People that like Melodic Death Metal in all the possible incarnations, will surely like this. People just entering into the realm of Melodeath Metal, will also like this. People like me who has listened many, many Melodic Death Metal albums, will find this rather repetitive and boring, despite some outstanding sections and ideas in some songs. You decide.
