Over my many years of listening to metal, I have heard stuff from all over the world. But from where exactly? Well, let's try to listen to metal from as many countries as possible, I will report my progress as I go.
I will also only include releases I rated at least a 6/10, because I don't want my only experience with a country's scene being negative. Enjoy!

I wasn't able to find any metal release from 58 countries.

Of course! Especially if you listen to different stuff than me, that way we'll have a more diverse showing of each country's scene

Finally updated and upgraded this list! I found out that 58 countries didn't have any metal scene, which means I only have 139 releases to check out in total, so we're already more than halfway there!

I couldn't disagree more with Canada's pick. Its a good album, but its not the best. Not remotely close.

It's my personal favorite! My second pick would have been the last First Fragment album though, and I think you can get behind that one

Yeah last First Fragment is great but still, there's Day Into Night by Quo Vadis, None So Vile by Cryptopsy, Obscura by Gorguts, None Shall Defy by Infernäl Mäjesty, Dimension Hatross by Voivod and the list goes on and on... All albums that are IMO much better but also have/had a bigger impact on the Canadian scene but also on Metal as a whole. Even for black metal I would've put Il Était Une Forêt... By Gris or The Suns of Perdition: Chapter I by Panzerfaust way before that one.

Then for the fans of Hard rock.. There's Moving Pictures by Rush.

But its your preferences so I can't argue that. I just don't feel like that's what I'd tell someone looking for the best metal In Canada to check out first.

Then again it's also hard to reflect on a country's contribution to metal with a single album.

You may be looking at this list wrong, its goal isn't really to guide people into what is the best / most representative metal album of each country, it's just me exploring the worldwide metal scene and documenting what I liked the most.
This list is useless if you only look at the countries that produce a lot of metal like the US, Canada, Germany, Sweden, etc, it's more interesting for the smaller countries that are brought up less often.
For the big metal powerhouses, we have more specific country list like your O' Canada, which dive deeper into everything the scene has to offer and what were the landmark albums.
I could have made an "objective" list with the best rated album from each country, but that doesn't really interest me, I'd rather share what I'm personally into and discover some cool stuff in the process.

What can I say, I genuinely love that album haha
Which band would you have picked? The ones that immediately come to mind when thinking of Austria are Summoning and Abigor, but I can't say I'm a massive fan of their music. My second pick would probably have been Broken Torso or Dornenreich.

I'm a huge Summoning and Abigor fan .. also Dornenreich .. Ellende are great, Deumus put out one of the best debuts I've heard in years, .. Ars Goatia are good, Estatic Fear has two great albums, Harakiri, Jack Frost, karg are all bands I'd prefer over Chryst I love me some Kringa and Vinsta, but if you put a gun to my head, I would go with Dornenreich's "Her von Welken Nächten" I can listen to this record any day and I love it front to back
