2011 Selections

Each year countless of albums come out. This is obviously by no means a definitive guide because as of 14/12/2011, I've only heard 364 releases from 2011, but do check these albums out if you haven't already! Feel free to throw stuff at my direction. In a rough order right now and rankings get rearranged every now and again. Will be trimmed around again in January / February. Note that I still have plenty to check out though.

Hahaha I like that you've ONLY heard 202 albums from 2011, I've probablly only heard 20-30 lol. 202 would be way more than I could ever listen to in a year.

Well, there's so much that I want to check out, but don't have time to (plus I lost my ipod for a while, so it's very inconvenient for me to check out new music), hence the "ONLY" is justified.

Thanks Troy (for calling me a bastard lol)

This is quite literally the most bizarre list I've come across this year. Some of the albums you choose that represent their respective genres (like Within Temptation and Forgotten Tomb) baffle me, but I really dig the variety (unlike my own list where like 90% of the top albums are black metal).

The list of a metal polymath if there ever was one, very broad mix of styles/genres.
That new Bloodiest album I couldn't recommend enough, you might enjoy also enjoy Cormorant's latest, nice mix of black/melodeth/traditional.
Oh and I almost forgot about that Orwell release, thanks for the reminder!

just can't deny the stuff I enjoy =P
I am actually getting into Bloodiest right now (listened twice in the past week) and it's definitely unique Post stuff going on there
Cormorant is in my wish list, but the folk tag is putting it further down my to-check list (and I'm really lagging behind in terms of Death, core, Power, Heavy and Black) =P
the new Orwell is bloody good!

There's no folk in Cormorant's Dwellings, so you can go ahead bump it up to the top of your list.

Terra Tenebrosa is your album of the year? That's awesome! I really like that one, too, but hadn't really give it such a critical listen. I'll analyze it differently when I listen next time.

Great list, lots of quality albums that I enjoyed, too! Yeah, I know what you mean about my list but I just tried to include too damn much from every genre and I didn't want to go above 50 There was tooooo much great metal this year so when I read your list I feel a little bad for all the wonderful albums I see here that I didn't find room for on mine. Like Orwell. In many ways I should have included them. Oh well, too late now.

I really enjoyed the comments you put on the first few. I hope you continue those! Very nice and interesting list

Good hifi or earphones/headphones would do it justice :3

I'm doing the same, but I have just exceeded 50 lol But there are still albums that I want to listen to, so I'll leave it for now before wrapping it up for good

>I really enjoyed the comments you put on the first few
I'm no good at writing, but they'll be there eventually. I've added a couple more already =P

at least 3

never consecutively. usually with at least one week's interval in between each spin to let things sink in and I can enjoy the music in different moods.

Never consecutively? Wow, thanks dude, I know what makes me tired of some albums quickly. I sometimes spin an album four-five times consecutively, which makes it a big boring.
And thanks again.

That sounds like you are trying to force yourself to like an album or something haha. I prefer variation. And other than the mood affecting my appreciation of different types of music, having some time in between makes the bits that standout actually standout more.

Also, I think not everyone one can digest music the same speed. Just like reading. Some people read faster, some people read slower; some people require more spins, some less.

You're welcome
