Additional info
To celebrate the album's decade of existence, the band is releasing a special, 10th anniversary edition of this landmark release, which will drop on November 1st, 2011.

The anniversary edition will include plenty of extras for the maggots and beyond to feast upon. It will be issued as a two-disc, one-DVD digipak with brand new artwork, including photography by M. Shawn "Clown" Crahan of the band. The first disc will comprise the original Iowa album, along with a remix of "My Plague" as an added bonus track. The second will include the full, live audio from the legendary Disasterpieces DVD, where the band's 2002 show at the London Arena was captured by 30 cameras and released as a concert film. The DVD will include Goat, a new film directed by Crahan, featuring never-before-seen interviews and footage showing the madness that surrounded the Iowa-era, plus four music videos.

#1 passed away this week. An absolute legend of a musician and artist of the beat to the soundtrack of a whole generation's anger and rage. Few bands today will be what Slipknot was for millennials around the turn of the century and Joey Jordison was one of their driving forces for almost 20 years. Rest in peace you magnificent person. Many a night of teenage angst is now also a testament to your memory. And this album, at least for me, towers over those times. The symbol of a confused yet maturing generation trying to find its place in this world.

Yeah it's too bad these guys are easy targets for heavy dissing. They are very skilled musicians but all of their followers are poser emo punks. Living in Iowa I see it everywhere. Slipknot are unfortunate victims of an illegitimate militia of dorky dumbass middle-schoolers.

Yep, but the people who diss Slipknot and claim that they "aren't metal" just because of "their followers" are just as much posers as those they are claiming to be so. Using non-musical reasons as a reason for dissing a band's music, and giving it an inappropriate label due to that makes you a poser. The music and the music alone should be the factor in how it's judged. Those who allow other frivilous elements into that judging process are not real music fans.

As for this album, it has some great songs on it, but it's a tad patchy. Both the first album and Vol.3 are better albums than this one, but in it's best moments, "Iowa" is great in it's own right.

Last night I gotta opportunity to spin "IOWA" and honestly, it sounds really good. Probably, will vary on the same boat as self titled did, I know I sounds pretty high atm but trust me, they just kick in some real Extreme Nu Metal stuff in( like Disasterpiece, People=Shit, Heretic Anthem, Iowa). Disappointingly, til yet we haven't heard anything "great" from there side. Still, a decent band to give it a listen atleast.

People say that most people don't like slipknot because of there followers, but I don't like them because of there weak guitar riffs, drums, and there inability to write lyrics that make sense. Only reason I've listened to this and a couple of there other albums was because i use to know a lot of people that liked them.

I'm sort of shocked that I would put this as a top 20 Metal album for me, but here I am. To think I used to really hate this band.

Me too. A band that produces a album with such quality souldn't have hate.

Why shouldn't a band/album have hate if people don't like it? Quality is subjective after all.

The thing with bands like Slipknot is there's a group of people who hate them for dumb trve metal reasons, and there are plenty of people who just think the music sucks.

The issue is those two categories are merged a lot more than you'd think.

I really don't see any issue. Even with the people that hate them for the trve metal reasons. It's just as whack how the fans react and get overly defensive. I don't really see why people care that much. I feel like anyone who isn't insecure about liking them really wouldn't be bothered. That or they take other people's opinions too personally, which is among the dumbest things you can do online.

It's just annoying really. I'm perfectly fine if people hate Slipknot, no skin off my nose, but I'd rather have them hate the band simply because they don't like it rather than because they're "not trve metal/metal enough" which is a load of crock.

But, you're right. Opinions, opinions.

While listening, forget about everything, dont care about the music itself. Feel the anger inside and fuck the world. Thats all. Thats what a classic numetal album does.

It is a good album, catchy, heavy and satisfying. But they could have cut few lesser songs and condense the whole album. After I pass the 30-40 minute mark, it feels a bit dull and jaded. Still feels the same after listening it multiple times during a long time period.

Their debut was an aggressive and angry album, but this is even more so, there is a really frustrating and angry vibe to the whole thing, you can see why so many rebellious teenagers listened to this.

I'm not sure which one I prefer now out of this one and the debut, both have ok ish songs, a few stand out tracks, and quite a few poor songs, the songwriting for most part is very similar, and the style and sound too, this just has a little more aggression imo.
But overall, much like the debut, I don't find many songs outstanding, "Left Behind", and "The Heretic Anthem" are the two that stand out most for me, but the rest has never really clicked. And yet again the album starts off well, but then quickly wears off towards the end.

I still think this is their best and one of the best nu metal albums of all time. That cover art I have always loved, it's so cool with that goat and the shadow in the background.

This album is 100% their best and is an album I would give that 10/10. It is simply perfect. It manages to pack near constant brutality and anger without losing its cohesion as a piece of art, it truly feels like a proper experience rather than a collection of songs. As soon as you hear the "Here we go again motherfuckers!" you know you're in for a ride
