After the semi-failure (commercial but not artistic in my opinion) of "34.788 Complete", which had made them lose a huge part of their die-hard fans, the great English doom band has decided to come back to its roots... and has released this "The light at the end of the world", that is seen as a step backwards by most of metallers. After the different and experimental "34.788% Complete", a really good yet so shamefully underrated album, My Dying Bride managed to return during 1999 and along with them came nightfall and the mourning and only a slight remembrance of "the light at the end of the world" was vivid in the far horizon. She is the Dark The song that summarizes and represents the whole album. All the songs are good... But this song depicts the album in the best way. My Dying Bride is a band with poetry... When poetry is the only thing that can make the difference, this is it : The Light at the End of the World

Somehow MH was right and wrong He was wrong that % album was better as this one, it was different, but he was right that this is not same as older ones... seems band was listened fans (dunno how, those days was no I net) , and wanted to re write something as old. Violin sucked, guitars was bad, but vox was OK

This is one of their best albums. Songs like She is the dark, Into the lake of ghosts, and Sear me III belong to my all-time favourite MDB songs. The album scores about 9.3 for me.

They definitely improved over the last album with this one, the emotional side was clearly back, and the songwriting is better than ever before. In my personal opinion this is better than all their albums before it. The the downside for me though was the album length, some of the tracks are simply way too drawn out and perhaps could have done with being cut short by a minute or two, that's just imo though  unfortunately for me it means getting through this all in one sitting can be become a chore.The highlights for me are "Into the Lake of Ghosts", "She Is the Dark" "Christliar"and "Edenbeast", all of which are tremendous songs the rest being ok to pretty decent.
