Framed as Xasthur’s first venture into black metal in 13 years, upon closer inspection, Inevitably Dark is neither a true return to the old sound nor a development of the more recent neofolk/Americana sound; it just sits awkwardly in the middle.

I got like a third of the way through this and unfortunately this just isn’t for me. I’ve only listened to one other Xasthur album and though I wasn’t a huge fan I thought I’d give this a try. It was certainly different but felt more like a random collection of unfinished ideas than an album. This band is likely just not for me.

His discography is quite massive and unfortunately his last albums are really not his best material at all. I would recommend you the works "The Funeral Of Being" and "To Violate The Oblivious" in particular. If you are more about traditional bm then even the debut "Nocturnal Poisoning" might be worth a spin.
