Ensiferum has become, almost instantly, the classic folk/viking metal band. With only 2 albums, their combination of folk riffing, use of folk instruments, simple and catchy songs and both clean and growled vocals have made them the kings of the genre. They are probably the most listened folk metal band along with Finntroll. And fuck, they deserve it. Their debut showed us what they were capable of, and most fans see that as the pinnacle of the band.

I still think Ensiferum and From Afar are better than this...

I can't for the life of me understand how their debut is ranked higher than this masterpiece in the top 200 albums.

No, it's not.

I know it's a matter of personal tastes, but frankly, this one really baffles me. I really don't understand how anyone can prefer their debut to Iron. I love every single track on this album and find only three tracks from Ensiferum that would have been worthy to be on this one.

Purchased this album recently...and I love it.

The stand out thus far is Lost In Despair. Wow...what a ballad!

I actually prefer this to Ensiferum's debut. The music to me seems slightly more concise and accessible, plus it has many of my favourite Ensiferum tracks on here. 'Sword of Light' and the title track are just epic.

For me this is the best Ensiferum's album. It's really viking and folk, as I like. Every single track is perfect. But the most interesting are Tale Of Revenge and Sword Chant. Best tracks.

So what?? Isn't one of the great attributes of metal that it's supertemporal?

A major step down from the debut. I guess Jari spared his best ideas for Wintersun while Markus had not enough fuel to repeat success on his own.

Songs stand out: Tale of revenge and Tears.

Great viking metal album, even its not genre, but many genres what represent such idea and are fascinated whit north and heritage, still its good album. i like it, my kind a metal, fantasy, stories, solders , old days. childhood days.

A step down from their debut but a fantastic album nonetheless, and better than anything that has followed it so far.

9.1/10 for me - The title track is the standout song. 'Sword Chant' and 'LAI LAI HEI' are both also fantastic.

A logical continuation of a previous masterpiece, but sadly, less memorable. Here we have some keyboards, more diversity in vocals, two pretty interludes and a bunch of great songs, such as "Sword Chant", "Tale Of Revenge", "LAI LAI HEI" and the title track. Very nice album, but debut Ensiferum is just so much greater for me!
